RDX threat to Bombay HC Nagpur bench sparks scare, cops call it hoax Email from 'Madras Tiger' prompts 2.5 hrs search; similar threats in Aurangabad & Guwahati HCs
Nagpur: An email threatening to bomb the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court with RDX, triggered panic in the judicial premises on Tuesday morning for over two-and-half hours, before the bomb detection and disposal squad called it a hoax. The threat, purportedly from an entity calling itself 'Madras Tiger', was received at around 10am on the official email ID of the high court registrar. The message, written in English, warned of an impending bomb attack on the court, prompting security escalation. The registrar's office quickly alerted police, and the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs were deployed. Simultaneous bomb threat emails were reportedly sent to the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court, Guwahati High Court and Kerala High Court, raising concerns over a coordinated attempt to disrupt judicial operations. Police sources confirmed the sender, operating under the alias 'Madras Tiger', appears to have no known connection to any pending litigation or court ruling. Investigators are trying to establish the identity of the individual or group behind the threat and whether the email is linked to a terror outfit. Cybercrime and anti-terrorism agencies have been roped in to assist in tracing the origin of the message. Earlier, Sadar police promptly launched a search operation. "With technical support and detection devices, our team carried out a sweep of the sprawling premises for more than two-and-half hours. No suspicious object was found, and the threat was later declared a hoax," inspector Manish Thakare told TOI. A seemingly suspicious bag containing a mobile phone was found, but was later identified as belonging to a lawyer who inadvertently left it behind. It was returned to him at the High Court police post. "Identifying the sender will take time as we need to retrieve the IP address from the email service provider. In an earlier case, a mentally unstable man issued a similar hoax and was swiftly arrested and jailed," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Halley's of Opulence: Ultra Luxury Residences in Tardeo From ₹ 8.99 Cr*+ MICL - Halleys Of Opulence Book Now Undo As per senior officials from the registry, the Bombay High Court has its own disaster management committee in Mumbai. Administrative judges of Nagpur, Aurangabad, and Goa benches are part of this panel. "As soon as such threats are received, the first message goes to this committee. Simultaneously, the message is forwarded to local police stations and state and central investigation agencies, including Intelligence Bureau," they told TOI. This is not the first time the Nagpur bench was targeted. In October 2023, a judge received a direct threat letter by post, following an unfavourable ruling. More recently, in March 2025, an anonymous email claimed a bomb was planted in the court premises, which also turned out to be a false alarm. Officials reiterated that such threats are taken seriously, and comprehensive security protocols are activated in response, even if the threat proves to be unfounded.
