New York City celebrates Earth Day with concert, car-free streets
NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City is celebrating Earth Day on Tuesday with events, concerts and more. Earth Day marks the start of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1974, created by then-President Richard Nixon. More Local News Citi Bike is offering unlimited free 30-minute rides on Tuesday. Bike riders can use the promo code 'CARFREENYC25' on the Day Pass tab of the Citi Bike app to redeem a free ride. PSEG Long Island is also giving away 500 trees to customers in the tri-state area, as planting trees in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability, officials said. The Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay will be holding an event on Sunday where volunteers will give out LED lightbulbs and reusable shopping bags. A free Earth Day concert will be held in Times Square on Saturday, featuring star-studded live performances from Broadway's top talent. Car-free streets will also kick off on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with neighborhoods celebrating with music and games.
