Oman, Russia to sign agreement on visa exemption

The Sultanate of Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, continues to develop areas of cooperation and partnership with various countries around the world. His Majesty the Sultan's state visit to the Russian Federation on Monday is just one of these milestones to maximize the common interests between the two countries, especially in the economic, trade, investment, energy, and renewable energy sectors. Hamoud bin Salim al Tuwayah, Oman's Ambassador to the Russian Federation, said in a statement that the visit will witness the signing of 10 agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields, most notably the agreement on mutual visa exemption for citizens of both countries holding ordinary passports; the protocol establishing the Omani-Russian Joint Committee; and other memoranda of understanding in various fields, including fisheries, trade, media, diplomacy, climate, and others. The tourism sector is one of the sectors with great opportunities for expansion between Oman and Russia, as the Sultanate of Oman boasts a rich tourism environment, combining cultural and natural heritage with stunning scenery that attracts Russian tourists. This visit is expected to contribute to strengthening tourism cooperation between the two countries. The mutual visa exemption agreement for ordinary passport holders of both countries, which will be signed on the sidelines of this visit, will play a significant role in enhancing this aspect. He said that the number of tourists traveling between the two countries is increasing every year. According to estimates by the relevant Russian authorities, the number of Omani tourists and visitors to Russia in 2024 reached approximately 11,000 visitors, a 70% increase compared to 2023, when the number did not exceed 3,000 visitors. The number of Russian tourists to the Sultanate of Oman in the same year reached approximately 44,000 tourists.
