Long-term lane closures on I-64 for Hampton Roads Express Lanes project

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Department of Transportation is implementing long-term lane closures on I-64 in Newport News beginning Monday through early 2026. Single-lane closures will be in place at the J. Clyde Morris Boulevard overpass by exit 258 and near Hampton Roads Center Parkway as a part of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes project. One inside lane in each direction will be closed, reducing four lanes to three. There will also be overnight ramp closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at both interchanges during setup. NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Starting on Wednesday, motorists can expect a long-term traffic shift on the I-564 east off-ramp to Little Creek Road. Ground broken for historic $3.8 billion HRBT expansion project According to a release, traffic will temporarily shift to the left to allow for a barrier to be added along the right shoulder for a right-turn only lane. This is a part of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) project's Norfolk segment. Construction begins on HREL Newport News segment In addition to the shift, westbound East Admiral Taussig Boulevard will be reduced to one lane so crews can work on stormwater facilities between the I-564 off-ramp to Little Creek Road and East Admiral Taussig Boulevard.
