Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7's main competitor shows its huge display in official image
Vivo X Fold 5 is the first foldable to feature IPX8/IPX9 ratings | Image credit: Vivo The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to arrive sometime in July, but before that happens, at least two top-tier foldables will be launched on the market, Vivo X Fold 5 and Honor Magic foldables are expected to be unveiled in June, so Vivo and Honor should start building hype for their upcoming products. In fact, the former has already started posting images of its upcoming X Fold 5 flagship foldable and revealed a couple of exciting details about product manager, Han Boxiao, has taken to Weibo to publish an image of the X Fold 5, which shows the phone's internal display. The picture Vivo's exec revealed comes alongside some interesting details like the fact that the phone has LTPO 8T panels, which presumably provide users with smoother visuals in various scenarios (i.e. browsing, gaming) thanks to the adaptive refresh rate. Another impressive achievement is the fact that both displays support up to 4,500 nits brightness, as well as high-frequency PWM dimming to help reduce eye strain. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports 2600 nits peak brightness. Vivo X Fold 5 | Image credit: Vivo It's also worth mentioning that Vivo is using Zeiss Master Color to optimize the X Fold 5's color reproduction. Besides the details about the foldable's panels, Boxiao didn't offer other information, but the image reveals one interesting detail: an extra physical button on the left Vivo has decided to replace the alert slider button on its previous foldables with a new one. Unfortunately, its function remains a mystery, although it's probably safe to assume that this is either a dedicated AI button or one that can be customized. To top it all off, Vivo confirmed last week that the X Fold 5 will be the first foldable that features IPX8/IPX9 ratings, which means it can withstand immersion in up to 3 meters of water. Funny enough, Vivo also claims that its flagship foldable can be opened and closed 1,000 times at a depth of 1 meter underwater. This is such a niche scenario that it's unlikely many will find this truly useful.

Vivo X Fold 5 display details and key details officially revealed
Vivo is prepared to launch its new foldable mobile phone, the Vivo X Fold 5, soon. The company's product manager, Han Boxiao, recently posted an image on Weibo revealing the device's internal screen. This has provided insight into the display technology it will use. Let's take a look at what the upcoming foldable from Vivo has to offer. According to the image, the Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to use advanced LTPO 8T panels on both its inner and outer screens. These panels support an adaptive refresh rate that adjusts to the content being displayed, helping to deliver smooth visuals for activities such as scrolling and gaming. The phone is built with a high pixel density and resolution to enhance the display clarity. Also read: WWDC 2025: How to Watch Apple's Live Event and What to Expect from iOS 26, AI Tools and More One notable upgrade is the display's peak brightness, which reaches 4,500 nits. This level of brightness will improve screen visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. The device also features full-brightness high-frequency PWM dimming as per the shared image. This, combined with TÜV Rheinland's Global Eye Protection 3.0 certification, aims to reduce eye strain during long usage sessions. Vivo has also partnered with Zeiss to tune the colour accuracy on both screens for precise and consistent colour output. Also read: Google pauses 'Ask Photos' AI Feature to address performance issues Furthermore, the image shared by Boxiao reveals a design change with the introduction of a new physical button on the left edge of the phone. This button replaces the alert slider found on the previous X Fold 3 models. Vivo has not yet confirmed the button's function, but it might offer programmable shortcuts or quick access to certain features. Vivo has also confirmed the X Fold 5 will be lighter and thinner than its predecessor. It weighs 209 grams, which is less than the 219 grams of the X Fold 3 and the 236 grams of the X Fold 3 Pro. When unfolded, the phone measures 4.3mm in thickness, and when folded, it is 9.33mm thick. While these dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Oppo Find N5, the device still ranks among the slimmer and lighter foldable phones on the market. Also read: iOS 19 to take to boost iPhone's battery life with help of AI Moreover, Vivo has stated that the X Fold 5 will offer strong durability. It can operate in cold temperatures down to minus 20 degrees Celsius and has IP5X dust resistance and IPX9 water resistance ratings. Reports suggest that Vivo plans to launch the X Fold 5 in India, potentially on July 10, alongside the Vivo X200 FE. This would mark the first time the standard X Fold model becomes available in the Indian market, as earlier only the premium X Fold 3 Pro was sold there. The launch could expand foldable phone options for Indian consumers.

Move over regular flagships, the first dust-resistant and waterproof foldable is coming
Dhruv Bhutani / Android Authority TL;DR Vivo has announced that the upcoming X Fold 5 foldable phone is dust- and water-resistant. The foldable phone has IP5X, IPX8, and IPX9 ratings for improved durability. This would be the first foldable phone with both dust and water resistance. One of the biggest issues with foldable phones is that they lag behind conventional devices when it comes to IP ratings. We've seen foldables with water resistance and ones with dust resistance, but we've never seen one with both features. Thankfully, this will soon change due to vivo. Vivo executive Han Boxiao announced on Weibo that the upcoming X Fold 5 foldable will have an IP5X rating for dust resistance, as well as an IPX8 rating for water resistance. If that's not enough, the foldable will also have an IPX9 rating for high-pressure, hot water jets. In other words, this will be the first foldable phone that's both waterproof and dust-resistant. Samsung's Galaxy Z6 devices offer IP48 ratings, which means they're water-resistant but not dust-resistant. In fact, the rating means they can only withstand objects 1mm in size or larger (dust is significantly smaller than that). Most other foldables, like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, typically offer IPX8 ratings at best, meaning they have no dust resistance whatsoever. What's stopping you from buying a foldable phone today? 0 votes Pricing NaN % IP rating NaN % Camera quality NaN % Battery life/charging speed NaN % Look and feel of the foldable screen NaN % Other (leave a comment) NaN % Boxiao claims that the X Fold 5 is the industry's first dust-proof foldable phone. However, Motorola's Razr Plus 2023 indeed offered an IP52 rating for a dust-resistant design. Furthermore, the vivo executive stated that the X Fold 5 can be repeatedly opened and closed 1,000 times in up to one meter of water. I'm not sure why you'd want that capability, but it's certainly an interesting claim to make. Nevertheless, this is a major development for foldable phones and narrows the gap between them and conventional phones. Many conventional smartphones are fully dustproof thanks to IP6X ratings, while the IP5X rating seen here means some dust can still enter the phone but won't affect it. Either way, these ratings mean you should have more peace of mind when it comes to your foldable's durability. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . The sequel to the world's lightest foldable could embarrass the Z Fold 7 Ultra
TL;DR Vivo has posted two images comparing the upcoming X Fold 5 foldable to an iPhone 16 Pro Max. One image shows that the folded device is similarly thick as the iPhone. The company also posted a video suggesting that the X Fold 5 could be the lightest foldable phone on the market. Vivo launched the X Fold 3 series last year, and the standard model might still be the world's lightest book-style foldable phone. Now, vivo has revealed that the X Fold 5 is in the works, while showing off its thin and light design. Company executive Han Boxiao posted two images on Weibo comparing the X Fold 5 to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. I don't care about the comparison between the unfolded device and the iPhone because any unfurled foldable looks thin. However, the second image (also seen at the top of the page) shows the folded device next to the iPhone, and it's tough to definitively tell which model is thinner. In other words, the new foldable could match some conventional smartphones in terms of thickness. A previous leak suggests a 9.33mm thickness, which wouldn't make it the thinnest foldable on the market but would still make for a slimmer design than its predecessor. The company isn't stopping here, though, as it also posted a video comparing the X Fold 5's weight to that of the X Fold 3. You can view this clip below. The clip shows that the X Fold 5 is lighter than the X Fold 3. For what it's worth, the latter is still the lightest book-style foldable on the market at 219 grams. It doesn't look like vivo is making major compromises to achieve this thin and light design, though. X Fold 5 specs leaked last month point to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset (up from the X Fold 3's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2), 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a 6,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 30W wireless charging. Other tipped specs include a 6.53-inch cover screen, an 8.03-inch folding display, a triple 50MP rear camera system (including a 3x camera), a side fingerprint scanner, and an alert slider. For what it's worth, the X Fold 5 could be slightly thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (or Z Fold 7 Ultra), which is said to measure 9mm when folded. There's no word on the Samsung phone's weight, though. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is also tipped to arrive with a 200MP main camera and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. However, vivo will likely outpace the Galaxy phone when it comes to battery capacity, charging speeds, and secondary cameras. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . The lightest foldable yet. Earlier this year we oohed and ahhed over the thinnest foldable phone so far, and now it's time for the lightest. Vivo product manager Han Boxiao released this clip that dramatically shows off how lightweight the upcoming X Fold 5 is, which leakers say will launch this month. I was impressed by the X Fold 3, the first foldable I used that felt like its camera came without compromises, so I'm excited to see its successor. The vivo X Fold5 will be the world's lightest book-style foldable phone. It is even lighter than the X Fold3's 219 g body. — Alvin (@sondesix) June 3, 2025
