UN meeting in Beirut discusses Response Plan and refugee return: International support and government commitment
Lebanon's Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayed and U.N. Coordinator Imran Riza chaired a meeting of experts on Lebanon's Response Plan, held after a delay since February and following the formation of the new government. The meeting was attended by representatives from U.N. agencies and donor countries. A detailed presentation of the plan was given, covering intervention priorities, funding, challenges, and the roadmap for the return of Syrian refugees with international support. Donor countries reaffirmed their support for Lebanon and for the safe return of refugees. Minister Sayed emphasized the government's commitment to implementing the return plan and the importance of supporting the 'Aman' social safety net program. Riza stressed the continued need for aid, with a focus on strengthening development.

Lebanon, World Bank agree on $200 million aid to expand poverty support program: Minister tells LBCI
Minister of Social Affairs Haneen Sayed told LBCI that Lebanon has reached an agreement with the World Bank for a $200 million aid package aimed at expanding the country's 'AMAN' social safety net program. The funding is intended to support the most vulnerable Lebanese families, particularly those impacted by the recent war. She also said the ministry will begin implementing the necessary procedures in the coming months.

Ministerial committee on Syrian displaced persons discusses initial plan for their safe and dignified return to their country
The ministerial committee on Syrian displaced persons held its second meeting, led by Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Metri and attended by Ministers Michel Mnassa, Ahmad Al-Hajjar, Haneen Sayed, Adel Nassar, and Mohammad Haidar, with Minister Youssef Raji absent due to travel. The attendees continued gathering accurate information about the number of Syrian displaced persons and their legal, social, and economic situations. They also discussed previous official attempts to return displaced Syrians to their home country. In light of Lebanon's firm stance against resettlement in all its forms, the committee reviewed the preliminary plan for the safe and dignified return of the displaced to Syria. They affirmed Lebanon's readiness to implement the plan in cooperation with Syrian authorities and relevant international organizations. Tarek Metri, the committee chair, and Minister Haneen Sayed also met with a Syrian delegation led by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Hind Kabawat to discuss all aspects of returning displaced Syrians to their homeland.

Seminar on Promotion of Use of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) organised by Embassy of India
NNA - On 24 February 2025, the Embassy of India, Beirut organised a Seminar on 'Promotion of Use of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)' in Movenpick Hotel, Beirut. The Seminar was bifurcated in two sessions: (i) a Panel Discussion moderated by Ambassador H.E. Md. Noor Rahman Sheikh and comprising of four Ministers- HE Mrs. Haneen Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs; HE Dr. Nora Bayrakadarian, Minister of Youth and Sports; HE Dr. Fadi Makki, Minister of State for Administrative Reform; HE Dr. Kamal Shehade, Minister of Displaced Affairs and Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence and CEO, Blom Bank- Dr Amine Awad. The Seminar brought out the possibility of replicating India's DPI in certain sectors in Lebanon. (ii) Another session which was held virtually with Speakers from India: (a)Mr. Manish Bhardwaj, Deputy Director General of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI): He explained how 1.4 billion Aadhaar (Identity) Cards were issued, Aadhaar is used for Digital Indian platform used for Identity Verification; Financial Inclusion; Access to Government Services; Ease of Doing Business; Social Security. (b)Mr. Anubhav Sharma, Head of International Business, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI): He shared his experience for overseeing the development and implementation of digital payment systems in India – UPI(Unified Payments Interface) (c) Mr. Sumanta Roy, President and Head of Middle East, Africa and Mediterranean, M/s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) based in Dubai: He mentioned ways to make DPI robust and how DPI has been replicated in various countries around the world. 2. The Seminar was attended by the four Ministers, two Members of Parliament and Members of Lebanese-India Parliamentary Friendship Committee (HE Mr. Faysal Al Sayegh; HE Mr. Firas Hamdan), CEO of Blom Bank, Senior officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Telecommunications, Interior Ministry, reputed financial institutions, IT companies, and Professors of various Universities in Lebanon.
