Cynthia Erivo Shares a Message of ‘Light & Positivity' For LGBTQ+ People Amid Political ‘Fear-Mongering'
As politicians around the world continue to pursue anti-LGBTQ+ agendas, Cynthia Erivo has a simple message for queer people in 2025: Don't let them win. In her new Billboard cover story published Monday (June 2), Erivo opens up about her thoughts on the Trump administration's continued attacks on LGBTQ+ rights. When asked by Billboard Pride editor Stephen Daw how she's coping with the political chaos, the singer-actress shared that she's focusing on trying to combat the vitriol with peace and calm. More from Billboard Cynthia Erivo Opens Up About Her Queerness: 'The More Yourself You Are, The Better Understanding Starts to Happen' The Roots Apologize to Fans After First Day of 2025 Roots Picnic Marred By Long Lines: 'Safety Will Always Be Our Number 1 Priority' Rod Stewart Postpones Las Vegas Colosseum Residency Gig Due to Unspecified Illness 'I'm trying to be a person you can get positive things from, because that is the only way you can balance this stuff,' she says. 'Fear-mongering is very powerful, and the only thing that you can do in order to offset that is to feed it with light and positivity.' For her queer and trans fans, Erivo highlights the importance of staying true to yourself, even amid a scary political landscape. 'I want to encourage people to not decide to just tuck away and start hiding and not being themselves anymore, because that is exactly what they want,' she says. 'The more yourself you are, the more you are in front of people who don't necessarily understand, the better understanding starts to happen.' All-star songwriter Justin Tranter agrees, saying that Erivo herself has become a powerful symbol for the LGBTQ+ community since her public coming out in 2022. 'Cynthia being Black and queer, and being one of the most famous people alive in this moment while our community is dealing with what we are dealing with, is no mistake,' they tell Billboard. 'For someone as talented as her to be a beacon for young Black queer people all over the world … is no accident.' Over the last few years, Erivo made a name for herself as one of the premiere performers at The Kennedy Center, where she's performed her own solo concerts while also honoring legends such as Dionne Warwick, Dame Julie Andrews and Earth, Wind & Fire. But earlier in 2025, President Trump announced that he was naming himself as the chairman of the prestigious arts organization, replacing existing board members with his own allies and ceasing any and all drag performances hosted by the Center. 'I don't know who gains what from that. I hope that it comes back,' Erivo says of Trump's takeover of the Kennedy Center. 'It's really sad to have to watch this happen to it. The Kennedy Center is supposed to be a space of creativity and art and music for everyone.' Cardi B Slams Offset After He Requests Spousal Support in Their Divorce: ‘I Want You to Die Slow'
Cardi B torched Offset after learning that her estranged husband filed for spousal support in their divorce proceedings. She hopped on X Spaces on Friday (May 30) and exploded on her ex for his spousal support request. The Grammy-winning rapper called Set a 'f—-ing b—h' during her emotionally charged rant. 'Cus now I'ma crash out and I don't give a f–k. You a b—h. N—a, you a f—ing b—h,' she began. Cardi B called out the reasoning behind Offset's spousal support request, as he told The Breakfast Club it was over Cardi 'asking for everything' and not letting him see their kids, which she denies. More from Billboard A Timeline of Cardi B & Offset's Relationship Selena Gomez Congratulates Taylor Swift on Buying Back Her Masters: 'So Proud' Los Alegres del Barranco Cancel Show in Michoacán for 'Security Concerns' 'You such a f–king p—y a– n—a,' she continued. 'Word to my mother, I want you to die, but I want you to die f–king slow. When you die, I want you to die slow in the bed. And when you die, n—a, you gotta think of me.' Cardi explained that she amended her divorce filing, asking for 'no child support' because she 'wants to be done with this marriage.' '[Offset] is allowed to see my kids. He stood up my kids three times. He has seen Blossom only like five times,' she said of their four-month-old. 'And I've been trying to save your face … Stop playing.' She went on to claim that the last time Offset saw their kids was in March at his son Kody's birthday. (He shares the 7-year-old with ex Oriel Jamie. Cardi detailed that the Migos rapper took issue with having to see their kids in a hotel room since she's not allowing him to pull up to their New Jersey house. Billboard has reached out to Offset's reps for comment. Earlier this month, Offset updated Cardi's divorce petition in New Jersey's Bergen County Superior Court with a request for an unspecified amount of alimony. After more than six years of marriage, Cardi filed for divorce from Offset in August for a second time, seeking primary custody of their 6-year-old daughter Kulture, 3-year-old son Wave and baby girl Blossom. In February, Offset responded to the divorce, seeking joint custody of the children. It appears Cardi B has moved on, as the 'WAP' rapper was spotted courtside at a New York Knicks playoff game earlier in May with NFL star Stefon Diggs. Suge Knight Believes Diddy ‘Definitely Should Walk' Free in Sex Trafficking & Racketeering Trial
Suge Knight believes Diddy should be a free man at the conclusion of his sex trafficking and racketeering trial. While Knight and Diddy were at opposite ends of the contentious West Coast/East Coast rap beef in the '90s, the Death Row founder joined NewsNation's Cuomo on Tuesday (May 27), where he detailed why he thinks that Diddy shouldn't be found guilty. More from Billboard Reneé Rapp Says Her Name Was Designed for Pop Stardom John Butler Returns With New Solo Album 'PRISM' Jourdan Blue Scores Golden Buzzer With Emotional Performance on 'America's Got Talent' Premiere Knight said he believes Combs had many accomplices who should be in handcuffs with him, while Diddy was the only Bad Boy Records executive to take the fall. 'I say this all the time, Puffy and I are not friends. But Puffy should definitely walk,' he explained. 'There were other executives involved in Puffy's life and for Puffy to be the only guy that gets on the stand is a sad day for hip-hop.' Host Chris Cuomo asked Knight about his relationship with Diddy's former assistant, Capricorn Clark, who testified against Combs and claimed Diddy kidnapped her. Knight alleged that Bad Boy's Reggie Wright Jr. forced Clark to have sex with multiple people. 'I don't think this is a case where Puffy should be going to prison … How could every person who's involved with Puffy not on the stand except for Puffy? At some point, the law gotta be blind,' Knight continued. 'We just can't jump to conclusions and say, 'throw Puffy under the bus.' Like I said, him and I are not friends, but Puffy definitely should walk. What's right is right, wrong is wrong.' Even if Diddy ends up receiving a lengthy prison sentence, Knight believes that President Donald Trump will end up giving the Bad Boy mogul a pardon. 'I don't think he has nothing to worry about, and I don't think he's worried because he's gonna be federal, and if he gets convicted, Trump's gonna pardon him,' he said to Cuomo. 'I feel that Puffy is going to be alright and have a fair shot at it. He's not a dummy. I'm quite sure somebody is going to talk to those jurors and convince one or two of them.' Diddy's sex trafficking and racketeering trial is approaching day 10 and is expected to last into July. He faces life in prison if convicted on all charges. Here's How Fans Are Reacting to 50 Cent Posting Another Photo of Himself in a ‘Free Diddy' Shirt
50 Cent trolled Diddy on Tuesday night (May 27) when he posted an image of himself on Instagram rocking a 'Free Diddy' T-shirt while sitting courtside at game four between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers. The photo itself appears to be Photoshopped or AI-generated with a 'Free Diddy' logo, as 50 posted a similar picture rocking a Balmain T-shirt at the game. 'Bro this game is crazy,' he captioned the 'Free Diddy' shirt photo. More from Billboard 50 Cent Jokes He Needs to 'Lay Low' After Ex-Assistant Testifies About Diddy's 'Problem' With Fif Reneé Rapp Says Her Name Was Designed for Pop Stardom John Butler Returns With New Solo Album 'PRISM' Marshawn 'Beast Mode' Lynch, Tony Yayo and Power actors Gianni Paolo and Kris Lofton had a laugh in the comments section, along with thousands of fans. 'Dis nigga too 2 too funni!!!! YesLawd,' Lynch, a former NFL star, wrote. A fan chimed in, 'I want a t shirt of 50 cent wearing a free diddy t shirt.' Another fan added, '50 already gettin started, wait till he finish that drink!' Billboard has reached out to the rapper's rep for comment. 50 has been relentless in his trolling of Diddy throughout the embattled Bad Boy mogul's sex trafficking and racketeering trial, and it doesn't appear he'll be stopping anytime soon. The G-Unit boss was actually name-dropped during Diddy's trial on Tuesday when a former assistant of Combs', Capricorn Clark, took the stand. Clark claimed that Diddy 'had an issue with 50 Cent.' In typical 50 fashion, the Queens legend made light of the court situation. 'Oh my goodness itty bitty Diddy wants me Dead, I have to lay low, I think I'm gonna hide out at the playoff game tonight. LOL,' he wrote to IG. This also wasn't the first time 50 has shared a photo of himself in a 'Free Diddy' shirt. On May 20, the rapper posted an AI-generated image of himself in a black tee featuring the same message and wrote in part for the caption: 'Free itty bitty Diddy! LOL 😆' Diddy's trial is heading into day 10, but is expected to last into July. Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, faces a potential sentence of life in prison if convicted on all charges. 50 Cent Jokes He Needs to ‘Lay Low' After Ex-Assistant Testifies About Diddy's ‘Problem' With Fif
50 Cent isn't letting up on his self-appointed coverage of the Diddy trial, and he continues to have fun with AI to help with his trolling. This time around, the Queens rapper and filmmaker reacted on social media to his name being mentioned during Diddy's ex-assistant Capricorn Clark's testimony on Tuesday morning (May 27), during which she told prosecutors about a time her former boss had a gun because 'he had a problem with 50 Cent.' More from Billboard Here's What 50 Cent Has to Say About People Allegedly Wearing 'Free Diddy' Shirts for $20/Hour Outside Court Zak Starkey Clarifies That He Was Not Fired From The Who (Twice) But Rather 'Retired' Tom Morello Joins Team Springsteen, Rages Against Donald Trump During Festival Set: 'F-k That Guy!' The first thing Fif posted was an AI-generated image of himself in a suit on a film set along with the caption, 'Cut, CUT. Wait a minute PUFFY's got a gun, I can't believe this I don't feel safe LOL,' and a screenshot of the exchange above. He then posted another AI-generated pic of himself with a scared look on his face with the caption, 'Oh my goodness, itty bitty Diddy wants me dead. I have to lay low, I think I'm gonna hide out at the playoff game tonight,' in reference to Game 4 of the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers Eastern Conference Finals NBA playoff series. Over the weekend, he posted (you guessed it) yet another AI-generated image, but this time it was a picture of Diddy with gray hair in court with a caption saying he thinks the embattled mogul will eventually do 20 years behind bars. 'What's the spread on this,' 50 asked. 'I got Diddy doing 20. His friends just got the f— away for him. SMH BadBoy Dangerous!' Last week, 50 poked fun at people allegedly wearing 'Free Diddy' shirts outside the Manhattan federal courthouse for $20 an hour by posting an AI-generated picture of himself wearing a shirt.
