35 short-listed in National Games hockey trials

Trials for the 35th National Games hockey event in Karachi were held at the Olympian Hanif Khan and Dr. Junaid Ali Shah Hockey Stadium at KHA Sports Complex, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. SHA selection committee Member, Olympian Wasim Feroze said that more than 70 players from across the province have participated for the men's team trials. "We have given each player a full opportunity to express their talents. This process will also be done with the women's team." Under the supervision of Chairman Selection Committee Sindh Hockey Association Olympian Iftikhar Syed, 35 best players were selected for the first phase from among the players who participated in the trials, while Sindh Olympic Association Special Representative Muhammad Asghar Baloch saw the trials as an observer. On this occasion, Olympian Iftikhar Syed said that SHA President and Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has a hockey family background. "Murtaza's father, Wahab Siddiqui, was a hockey player. We participated in many competitions together," he said. Iftikhar urged Mayor Karachi to establish a high-quality hockey academy for Sindh players in the city. "We will provide free services in the academy to revive the national game. There is excellent hockey talent in the province. There is a need to provide them with training and opportunities. I am sure that Sindh team will perform well in the 35th National Games." A training camp for the Sindh team consisting of selected players will be held at the KHA Sports Complex. The names of the selected players are as follows. Goalkeepers: Abdul Rafey, Abdullah Sheikh (Karachi) Nabeel Akhtar (SBA), Fullbacks: Babar Saadat, Arsalan Khalid, Zafir Ahmed (Karachi), Adnan Ali (Mirpur Khas), M Daniyal (SBA), M Osama (Hyderabad), Fayyaz (Sukkur). Halfbacks: Arbaz Ayaz, Shahbaz Haider, Ali Afridi, Ali Abbas, Daniyal Ali, Mohsin Nawaz, Waris Naseer (Karachi) Zohaib (Sukkur) Zaman Ali (SBA), Forwards: Mujtaba, Shahzeb Khan, Hammad Ayaz, Haris Naseer, Zain, Ghulam Ali, Rashid Ali, Shahzeb Arbab (Karachi) Missam Abbas (KHR) Rehan Khan, Hammad Rizwan, M Faizan, M Israr, Munawar, (Hyderabad) Farrukh Ali Hashmi and Kamran Ali (Sukkur).

Hanif Khan Club wins KHA event

Hanif Khan Hockey Club edged past Youth Hockey Club 1-0 to win the thrilling final of the KHA Ramadan Inter-Club Hockey Championship, held under at the Olympian Hanif Khan and Dr. Junaid Ali Shah Sports Complex, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, on Thursday night. In a game that changed with every moment, both teams attacked each other's goal posts vigorously. However, taking advantage of the penalty stroke awarded in the last moments of the game, Asim Khan of Hanif Khan Club scored the goal and gave his team victory. For the first time in the history of domestic hockey in Karachi, a female umpire, Kashmala Batool, supervised the entire tournament including the final, while international umpire Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmed supervised the final match with her. During the match, the players objected to the umpire's decision several times, but Kashmala Batool did not take any kind of pressure and continue umpiring professionally. Kashmala Batool also performed as referee in football matches along with hockey. At the end of the final, Karachi Hockey Association President Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah distributed prizes to the players and teams with Olympians Hanif Khan, Iftikhar Syed, Wasim Feroze, Chairman KHA Gulfraz Khan, Senior Vice President Ijazuddin, Vice Presidents Dr. S.A Majid, Imtiaz-ul-Hassan, Mohsin Khan, Javed Iqbal, Sindh Olympic Association Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput and others. The captain of Hanif Khan Hockey Club received the winner and the captain of the Youth Hockey Club received the runner-up trophies. The best player and best goalkeeper of the championship were awarded to the Youth Club's Saad Ali and Abdul Rafey. Don Bosco Hockey Club and Al-Sagheer Hockey Club jointly received the Fair Play Trophy.

KHA Ramadan Inter-Club Hockey begins

PHOTO: KHA KHA Ramadan Inter Club Hockey Championship 2025 commenced with a colorful opening ceremony on 16th March 2025 at Olympian Hanif Khan & Dr Junaid Ali Shah Sports Complex Gulshan e Iqbal Karachi, the tournament with a rich history is organizing by Karachi Hockey Association. Syed Imtiaiz Ali Shah - President KHA was the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony, the tournament began with a traditional ball hitting by the Chief Guest. Top 13 clubs of the city are participating in the tournament. The opening match between Gulberg Hockey Club and Rabbani Hockey Club ended in a 0-0 draw, showcasing exceptional skills from both teams. The match was officiated by umpires Rizwan Khan and Hammad Ahmed, while technical officials were Muhammad Faizan, Moin Alam and Rashid Ali ensured a smooth conduct of the game. Honorable chief guest Imtiaz Shah praised Olympian Hanif Khan, who is the Honorary Secretary General KHA, and his entire team for consistently organizing such tournaments for the benefit of players. He also appreciated the high spirits of the players, who demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and dedication while playing during the Holy month of Ramadan. Olympian Hanif Khan later presented a souvenir to the chief guest. Also present on the occasion were Haider Hussain, Secretary General PHF, Gulfraz Ahmed Khan, Chairman KHA, Javed Iqbal, Asst. Secretary KHA and Tournament Director, SSP (R) Ejazuddin among other notable personalities. The KHA Ramadan Hockey Championship 2025 promises to be an exciting tournament where new and young hockey talent will be displayed and fans are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming matches.
