Pre-evacuations ordered for wildland fire near Wigwam
(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — According to the Chief of the Hanover Fire Department, the fire near Wigwam west of I-25 has burned between 35-100 acres.
Stratmoor Hills, Security, and Hanover Fire Departments are currently responding to the fire. The fire is not contained and crews are currently working on containment. The pre-evacuation notice remains in place.
Pre-evacuation notices have been issued for a wildland fire south of Fountain.
According to a Peak Alert sent to neighbors around 5:20 p.m. on Monday, March 3, the fire is burning near Boca Raton Heights and La Questa Drive, west of I-25 near Wigwam. The Cactus Creek Ranch neighborhood is under a pre-evacuation warning.
EPSO said those under pre-evacuation should prepare to leave immediately. If you see flames or are in danger, leave now.
High winds are expected Monday night, though the FOX21 News Storm Team said as of 5:30 p.m., the high winds are still several hours away.
