Popular kids' toy sold on Amazon urgently recalled over 'serious' injury risk
Parents have been warned after a popular summer kids toy - sold on Amazon - was recalled over fears it could pose 'serious risk of injuries' due to 'accessible magnets with a magnetic flux index' A popular children's toy sold on Amazon has been recalled over fears it could pose a "serious risk of injuries". Parents have been warned not to let their kids use a specific plaything, previously available from the major online retailer. The Soppycid Reusable Water Balloons have since been removed from the website after the product recall - following fears around the safety of the items. The toy posed a safety risk because "it contains accessible magnets with a magnetic flux index that exceeds the acceptable level", according to the item's risk description. The water balloons were available to buy in a pack of six and retailed for £18. The risk description also said: "Small, high-powered magnetic products can easily be swallowed and, when ingested, have the potential to cause serious internal injuries within the gastrointestinal tract. The product also requires improvement to marking, labelling and documentation." The Office for Product Safety and Standards listed the recall and said the toys were sold via Fruggo. It said: "The product has been recalled from end users. The listings have been removed by the online marketplace (Fruugo)." It added that these toys did not meet the regulations of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The toy was described as a "bag of colourful reusable water balloons, sealed with magnets" and the country of origin was said to be China. This comes two months after Easter toys sold at Home Bargains were urgently recalled due to concerns they could cause children "to choke". The retailer urged shoppers who bought the Happy Easter plush toys to return the product to stores. The company's website stated that the product, distributed by TJ Morris Ltd and sold in their stores, posed a "serious asphyxiation risk". This was due to the internal fibrous stuffing material - which could easily be accessed by kids because the stitching around the toy was weak. The toys were available in three variations – a yellow chick, a pink rabbit, and a white rabbit – and were all removed from sale. The affected toys had the barcode 10811016. Toys haven't been the only items hit with product recalls recently. Lidl was forced to pull a popular protein bar from shelves due to health fears. The Cookies & Cream Protein Bars, made by Healthy Fit, were removed from stores in Northern Ireland because they contained milk and soya. These items, which are common allergens, were not declared in English on the label. This therefore posed a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, and/or an allergy to soya.

Two children die after eating deliberately poisoned Easter eggs
Don't miss out on the headlines from Parenting. Followed categories will be added to My News. A young child and a teenager have died after their family were allegedly sent poisoned Easter eggs in what authorities believe was a 'revenge plot.' A 35-year-old woman has now been arrested after allegedly sending the eggs to the family of her ex-boyfriend on 16th April. Police suspect Jordélia Pereira Barbosa purchased the chocolates while in disguise, then spiked them and had them delivered to her former lover's family in Brazil. Want to join the family? Sign up to our Kidspot newsletter for more stories like this. Poisoned chocolate arrive with note: "With love, Happy Easter" Video obtained by local news outlet Imperatriz Online shows the woman purchasing chocolate while wearing a black wig, as well as an image from her arrest. The Easter eggs arrived at the home of her ex's new partner, Mirian Lira, who then shared the chocolate with her two children, according to People, who reported the story. The 32-year-old mother is believed to have been the target of the attack, with a note accompanying the fatal delivery that read: 'With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.' Upon consuming the chocolate, Mirian's seven-year-old son, Luis Silva, became 'immediately' ill, with his father having to administer CPR. The boy was rushed to hospital but passed away. The 13-year-old daughter, Evelyn Silva, died five days later. Doctors say her death was caused by vascular shock linked to multiple organ failure. Mirian remains in hospital in a stable condition and is said to be responding well to treatment. RELATED: Bondi Junction attack's 'sleep mask dad' speaks out Police say alleged poisoning was "barbaric" Authorities moved quickly, arresting Jordélia Pereira Barbosa at a bus stop the day after the attack. 'The evidence suggests, based on several points investigated, that the crime was motivated by revenge and jealousy, given that the author's ex-husband is the current partner or boyfriend of the victim, who was poisoned along with her two children,' security official Maurício Martins told Brazilian news outlet G1 . "The police will continue working to strengthen this evidence and present her to the Judiciary to answer for this barbaric crime." Investigators have obtained receipts showing purchases of the chocolate eggs, wigs, scissors, suspected drugs, and a saw knife. The leftover chocolate is undergoing testing to determine the poison used. Originally published as Two children die after eating deliberately poisoned Easter eggs

Senator Fatima Payman called out over social media post ahead of long weekend
Senator Fatima Payman has been called out over her message ahead of the long weekend. The independent West Australian Senator posted the message to social media on Good Friday, along with a photo of herself seated in the lap of a giant stuffed bear. 'Happy long weekend everyone,' Ms Payman wrote. 'If you're celebrating Easter, I hope you have an enjoyable time with family and friends.' But some Aussies were quick to hit back at Ms Payman in the comments. Though she had mentioned 'Easter' in the post, they took exception to her reference to the holiday as a 'long weekend'. 'It's happy "Easter" long weekend,' one said. 'You left out a word. You came to this country because you enjoyed what it had to offer, embrace it... don't change it.' 'Divisive,' claimed another. 'It's the Easter long weekend. Subtle provocation from one who claims to be Australia's voice.' 'If you can't even say "Happy Easter", how can you possibly promote yourself as Australia's voice,' said a third. 'Thank you but I noticed you actually avoided saying 'HAPPY EASTER', which makes me wonder whether you did that so as not to validate a Christian belief or celebration and risk alienating those that share your belief system,' a fourth said. 'That's fine, it's certainly your right to do that, but I think it's only fair that I also chose to do the same when referring to celebrations or the founder of your belief system.' But other Aussies were supportive of Ms Payman and her message. 'Thank you Senator Fatima Payman. Have a great long weekend,' one said. 'Happy long weekend to you and yours Senator Payman,' said another. A third said: 'Good luck and I'll be voting for you in the senate.' It comes after Ms Payman issued an apology earlier this year following her comments praising Iran's treatment of women in an interview with a state-owned propaganda outlet. Senator Payman, who was born and raised in neighbouring Afghanistan before moving to Australia with her family in 2003, gushed about the 'incredible place that allows 'women to participate in the workforce to ensure that they have a voice and their voices are heard'. But Ms Payman's glowing review of Iran, where the UN has found that women and girls are treated as 'second-class citizens,' was swiftly condemned online, leading to her apology days later. Ms Payman was elected as a Labor senator but left the party last year over its position on the Israel-Gaza conflict, founding the Australia's Voice party.

Pope Francis' nine last words before waving at Easter mass crowds hours before death
Pope Francis waved at adoring crowds and wished them a Happy Easter just hours before he died at the age of 88 - his final words to a nurse who helped care for him have now been revealed Among the Pope's final words were nine words he spoke to the nurse who had cared relentlessly for him during his illness, thanking him for bringing him back to St Peter's Square and asking a heartbreaking question. Francis, 88, expressed his gratitude to Massimiliano Strappetti, who sat by his side in the Gemelli Hospital for 38 days and kept watch round the clock during his last weeks at home in the Vatican. He was with The Holy Father on Sunday when he rode through adoring crowds in the popemobile, after wishing them a Happy Easter for one final time from the St Peter's Basilica balcony. The day before, they had gone together to review the route he would take on Sunday, The Vatican's official news outlet reported. Francis had hesitated slightly and asked Mr Strappetti: 'Do you think I can manage it?' Once in St. Peter's Square, he embraced the crowd, especially the children. He also told Mr Strappetti: "Thank you for bringing me back to the Square.' It was his first ride since being discharged from hospital, and the last of his life. He afterwards thanked Mr Strappetti, and then rested on Sunday afternoon with a quiet dinner. At 5.30am, the first signs of the sudden illness appeared, prompting an immediate response from those keeping watch over him. 'Around an hour later, after making a gesture of farewell with his hand to Mr. Strappetti, lying in bed in his second-floor apartment at the Casa Santa Marta, the Pope fell into a coma,' read the outlet. 'According to those who were with him in his final moments, he did not suffer. It all happened quickly. His was a discreet death, almost sudden, without long suffering or public alarm, for a Pope who was always very reserved about his health.' Pope's funeral details confirmed The Prime Minister will be among world leaders and dignitaries to attend the funeral of Pope Francis this weekend, it was confirmed today. The late pontiff will be buried on Saturday. His body will be laid out for public view from Wednesday in St Peter's Basilica, so mourners can pay their respects to a man dubbed the People's Pope. In a statement released by Number 10 on Easter Monday, Keir Starmer said: "I join millions around the world in grieving the death of His Holiness Pope Francis. "His leadership in a complex and challenging time for the world and the church was courageous, yet always came from a place of deep humility." The Prime Minister will join a host of other world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, who had already said on social media that he and his wife Melania plan to attend the funeral. Prince William will represent King Charles in attendance, Kensington Palace confirmed. The decision for the Prince of Wales, a future head of the Church of England, to attend is in keeping with modern tradition and will be seen as a major milestone in William's role as a global statesman and future king. Charles as the Prince of Wales went to Pope John Paul II's funeral, representing his mother the late Queen, in 2005. The pontiff will be honoured with a long mourning period and multi-stage funeral before he is buried at a church he frequently visited on the other side of the River Tiber in the centre of Rome. Pope Francis I's funeral will take place at 10am local time (9am BST) on Saturday, March 26, the Vatican confirmed today following a meeting of the Catholic Church's top brass in St Peter's Square.

Oklahoma's Ben Arbuckle brisket picture roasting Lincoln Riley?
Oklahoma's Ben Arbuckle brisket picture roasting Lincoln Riley? Great weekend with family and friends. Happy Easter! — Ben Arbuckle (@arbuckle_ben) April 20, 2025 New Oklahoma Sooners offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle has no previous ties to the OU Football program, and yet he's already finding ways to get into the good graces of the fanbase. Arbuckle was hired this winter to help re-ignite the OU offense after its poor showing in 2024. One of his first moves was to help bring starting quarterback John Mateer with him from Washington State. Together, the duo of Arbuckle and Mateer hold the fate of the Sooner offense in their hands in 2025. While Arbuckle's arrival was already met with the applause of Sooner Nation, the fans have been hurt by new coordinator hires before. While the best way for Arbuckle to win their approval is to light up the scoreboard, the new OC took time on Easter Sunday to try to win over some of the more astute Oklahoma fans. Arbuckle posted a simple Happy Easter message to his X profile on Sunday, complete with a picture of a brisket he made for the occasion. That seems like a non-starter, but some OU fans will remember that the last offensive play-caller the Sooners plucked from the Air Raid tree out of West Texas also posted his own Easter brisket once upon a time. That brisket, cooked by former OU head coach Lincoln Riley, was mocked on social media for being far too dry. As you can see, Arbuckle's version of a classic Oklahoma meal has much better color and moisture. Some might say that Riley's ill-fated brisket was the beginning of the end of his time in Norman. Less than a year later, Riley bolted, leaving on bad terms with OU fans, to become the head man at USC. The brisket controversy was of course brought up again by observant Sooner fans. Riley and Arbuckle have plenty of similarities, as both come from the Hal Mumme-Mike Leach coaching tree, run the Air Raid offense, and grew up in West Texas. Riley is from Muleshoe, while Arbuckle hails from Canadian. The two towns are about 200 miles apart on either side of Amarillo, in the panhandle of Texas. Riley's sudden exit notwithstanding, he was an extremely good hire as an offensive coordinator by head coach Bob Stoops when he initially made his way from East Carolina to Oklahoma. The Sooners and head coach Brent Venables are hoping that lightning strikes twice with a very similar hire in Arbuckle, who already has the edge when it comes to smoked meats.
