With summer vacation just around the corner, Canadians are gearing up for some fun in the sun. For many, however, a getaway — even a close one — isn't in the cards, with Canadians strapped for cash amid a cost-of-living crunch.
RBC reported that Canadians stayed close to home last summer, spending less on hotels, restaurants and travel, and they're poised to do so again. Overall spending on travel dropped by 1.9 per cent between March and April. 'It's understandable that many people are feeling the same reluctance to spend in this climate of rising costs and economic uncertainty,' says Melissa Leong, keynote speaker and author of 'Happy Go Money.'
