19-year-old daughter stabs dad over religious greeting on Easter, WA officials say
A 19-year-old was arrested after being accused of attacking her parents with a knife over an Easter greeting, Washington officials said. On April 20, officers arrived at a Vancouver home where McKenzy Hafer and her parents, Benjamin Hafer and Erin Hetzler, live, officials told KATU. Officers learned the attack came after Hafer's father told her 'Happy Resurrection Day,' to which she replied that she didn't believe in God, officials told KPTV. Hafer eventually said the greeting back to her father but later grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the stomach 'with the intent to kill him,' court documents obtained by KOIN stated. Her mother started yelling at her and that's when Hafer cut her throat with the knife, officials told KOIN. Both parents sustained injuries. McClatchy News reached out to officials for more information on April 23 and was awaiting a response. McKenzy Hafer was arrested outside the home on two charges of second-degree attempted murder, KATU reported. Vancouver is about a 170-mile drive southwest from Seattle.

‘Happy Resurrection Day' greeting escalates into stabbing, throat-slashing, Vancouver police say
A 19-year-old woman was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly stabbing her father and slashing her mother's throat during a violent confrontation inside a northeast Vancouver home, according to police reports. Just before 5:40 p.m. on April 20, Vancouver police responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a home in the 1200 block of Northeast 112th Avenue. The caller said McKenzy Hafer had stabbed her father in the stomach and attempted to cut the throat of the person calling for help. When officers arrived at the residence, they found a woman—later identified as McKenzy Hafer—outside the home. She was detained without incident and placed in the back of a patrol car. According to the police report, Hafer was read her Miranda rights and agreed to speak with officers. She told police she lived at the home with her father, Benjamin Hafer; her mother, Erin Hetzler; and her brother. The incident reportedly began after Benjamin wished McKenzy a 'Happy Resurrection Day,' to which McKenzy replied that she did not believe in God. The exchange escalated into an argument between father and daughter. After some time, they separated and went into different rooms. While McKenzy was in the kitchen preparing food, her mother Erin approached her and asked about the earlier argument. The two began to argue, and McKenzy admitted to throwing her phone on the floor during the exchange. When Erin confronted her about it, Benjamin came out of his room and entered the kitchen to find out what had happened. At that point, McKenzy allegedly grabbed a knife from a block on the kitchen counter. She described it as silver with a black handle. She then stabbed her father once above the belly button, telling police she intended to kill him. Erin began yelling, and McKenzy reportedly turned the knife on her mother, cutting her in the throat—again stating she had intended to kill. Both parents sustained injuries consistent with McKenzy's account, according to the report. Based on her statements and the evidence at the scene, police arrested McKenzy Hafer on two counts of second-degree attempted murder under Washington's domestic violence statute. Authorities have not released additional details on the victims' medical conditions.

Vancouver woman accused of stabbing parents over ‘Resurrection Day' comment
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A Vancouver woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing her father and cutting her mother's throat in an Easter dispute, according to court documents. Around 5:40 p.m. Sunday, an officer responded to the Vancouver home where 19-year-old McKenzy Hafer lived where her parents and brother, after Hafer's mother, Erin Hetzler, called 911 reporting Hafer stabbed her father and tried to cut her throat, probable cause documents state. On the scene, officers found Hafer outside the home, where she was arrested on two second-degree murder charges. Washington limits armed forces from entering the state without governor's OK According to court documents, Hafer told officers the incident began after her father, Benjamin Hafer, told her 'Happy Resurrection Day,' leading Hafer to tell her father she does not believe in God. This sparked an argument between the two, court documents say, before Hafer eventually told her father 'Happy Resurrection Day,' back and the two separated in different rooms. Later, when Hafer was cooking in the kitchen, her mother confronted her about the argument with her father, causing another argument, according to court documents. Tribes battle PGE's plan to seize Willamette Falls land During the argument, Hafer threw her phone on the ground, and after her father entered the kitchen to ask about the phone, Hafer grabbed a knife from a knife block and stabbed her father above the belly button 'with the intent to kill him,' court documents state. Hetzler started yelling at Hafer, who then cut her mother's throat with the same knife 'with the intent to kill her,' court documents say. The probable cause document claims Hafer's parents sustained injuries consistent with what she told officers. Hafer's arraignment is scheduled May 5, with bail set at $500,000.
