King of Norway postpones trip to ski championships because of a cold
Norway's 88-year-old King Harald V has caught a cold and will postpone his planned trip to the World Ski Championships in Trondheim for a few days, the royal household said on Wednesday. The championships are due to start on Wednesday, and in Harald's absence the Norwegian court will be represented initially by his wife, Queen Sonja, 87, together with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Harald is expected to attend the event in Trondheim from Sunday if his health permits, according to the royal calendar. The cold comes at an unfortunate time for the monarch, who has been suffering from health problems in recent years. Harald is known for his enthusiasm for sport, especially skiing. As a sailor, he has competed in several Summer Olympics and only announced the end of his competitive sailing career at the end of 2022.
