Did New York Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart take subtle shot at Shedeur Sanders?

Did New York Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart take subtle shot at Shedeur Sanders? The New York Giants met extensively with quarterback Shedeur Sanders leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, including a face-to-face with head coach Brian Daboll that went viral for all the wrong reasons. The Ringer's Todd McShay reported that during the pre-draft sit-down, Daboll presented Sanders with an install that deliberately included errors. Unprepared, Sanders failed to recognize them and things got tense. "Shedeur didn't have a great interview with Brian Daboll in a private visit," McShay said. "An install package came in. Preparation wasn't there for it. [He] got called out on it. Didn't like that. Brian didn't appreciate him not liking it." Albert Breer or Sports Illustrated followed that up with a confirming report that suggested Sanders was "pissed" at the Giants and Daboll, who are notoriously hard on quarterbacks during interviews. 'The Giants one, they give players an install, and there are mistakes intentionally put in the install,' Breer said via 98.5 The Sports Hub. 'He didn't catch them and got called on it, and it didn't go well after that. … He was pissed that they did that to him.' Although Sanders came in unprepared, Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, whom the Giants traded up and selected in the first round of the draft, did not. And during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Dart appeared to throw some subtle (or unintentional) shade at Sanders. "You better be prepared going to do a Daboll meeting, because it's intense. He definitely wants to get the most out of you," Dart said. "I would say, if you're not prepared, don't step into the meeting, because you're going to get grilled. "So they threw all that they could at me, and I was able to handle it the best way that I could. I think that just shows how intentional and how dedicated that coaching staff is." It's entirely possible Dart had Sanders on his mind when making those comments or, more likely, he was just speaking from experience. As the football world saw during "Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants" in 2024, Daboll and his staff are very deliberate when evaluating quarterbacks. The Giants put a lot of pressure on their quarterbacks and Dart passed the test. Sanders, on the other hand, did not.

2025 NFL draft: New York Giants' biggest winners and losers

2025 NFL draft: New York Giants' biggest winners and losers The New York Giants are riding high after general manager Joe Schoen hit a home run (at least on paper) in the 2025 NFL draft. His seven-pick class potentially provides solutions for the immediate future and the long-term of the franchise. But not everyone came away from the draft in a good position. Here's a snapshot of the Giants' biggest winners and losers following the draft. Winner: GM Joe Schoen After an embarrassing showing on "Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants" and an ugly campaign for the team, general manager Joe Schoen was justifiably on the hot seat. Despite that, co-owner John Mara opted to keep the regime intact and following a solid free agency haul, Schoen hit one out of the park during the draft. Schoen's draft class has been widely praised and for good reason. He not only landed the best player of the class (Abdul Carter), but he maneuvered back into the first round and solved the quarterback conundrum with Jaxson Dart. After that, Schoen made three straight value picks that many could argue were steals before wrapping things up with a pair of high-ceiling (but high-risk) additions. Loser: QB Tommy DeVito The Giants may have re-signed Tommy DeVito this offseason, but he now appears to be the odd man out. Russell Wilson is expected to start and he'll be backed up by fellow veteran Jameis Winston. Rookie Jaxson Dart won't be risked on the practice squad, so he'll account for another 53-man roster spot. DeVito could be an option for the practice squad once rosters are trimmed league-wide, but his spot on the active roster is now a thing of the past. He could very well be in the final months of his Giants career. Winner: DC Shane Bowen If not for Schoen, defensive coordinator Shane Bowen would have secured the top spot as the biggest winner. His entire defense has been beefed up and completely transformed since the start of the offseason. The additions of Carter, defensive tackle Darius Alexander, and cornerback Korie Black, who has blazing speed, not only solve a multitude of issues but will allow Bowen to rely more heavily on his front seven to create organic pressure. If Bowen fails to find success with the defense that has been assembled, it will be his failure. Loser: DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches The additions of Abdul Carter and Darius Alexander will have a significant impact on Rakeem Nunez-Roches and the role he plays. After taking nearly 56 percent of the defensive snaps in 2024, Nunez-Roches is likely to fall into more of a rotational role, losing extra snaps to the two rookies. And that's assuming the Giants even hang onto him. If the Giants were to cut Nunez-Roches, who is in the final year of a three-year contract, they would save an additional $3.6 million against the cap while absorbing just a $1.43 million dead cap hit. And considering they need to clear space in order to sign their rookie class, Nunez-Roches is a likely cut. Winner: NT Dexter Lawrence All-Pro nose tackle Dexter Lawrence is the player likely to benefit most from Schoen's draft. Not only will a beefed-up rotation allow him to catch his breath during games, but it will also lead to fewer double-teams. In obvious pass rush situations, the Giants are likely to send the house with Carter, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, giving Sexy Dexy more space to wreck things in the middle. And given his success against two blockers, one can only imagine his production in more one-on-one situations. Provided Lawrence can stay healthy in 2025, he's positioned to put up historic numbers from the nose tackle position. Loser: OL Evan Neal Evan Neal may be moving to guard this season, but he won't find an easier avenue to a starting job there. The Giants selected Marcus Mbow in the fifth round and he will likely compete for the starting job with veteran Greg Van Roten. The Giants recently declined Neal's fifth-year option and although he's willing to do anything to help the team, as Schoen has noted, he's likely entering his final stretch. The 2022 first-round pick has failed to live up to expectations and is considered one of the Giants' worst draft busts of the past decade.

Jordon Hudson helped kill UNC's ‘Hard Knocks' project over personal involvement after Bill Belichick pushed for it

Many were shocked when NFL Films said in March that UNC would no longer be the subject of HBO's 'Hard Knocks' offseason series after the sides were reportedly close on a deal. Jordon Hudson, the 24-year-old girlfriend of North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick, had a pivotal role in why negotiations fell through, including her request to be heavily involved in the project, as reported Wednesday by The Athletic. Jessica Boddy, the NFL's vice president for commercial operations and business affairs, said in an email to UNC's counsel confirming that showmakers 'will not proceed with the production of the Belichick project' on March 3 — two days after NFL Films was set to begin production on the five-part docuseries. 5 Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson attend the 14th Annual NFL Honors at Saenger Theatre on February 6, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Getty Images 'The conversation took a turn we were not comfortable with,' wrote Boddy, who is an executive producer for 'Hard Knocks.' Hudson was not mentioned or included in more than 200 pages of emails discussing the project that were obtained by The Athletic. The emails showed that Belichick was in favor of the project. North Carolina's athletic department deferred The Athletic's request for comment to 'Hard Knocks,' since it was the production company's decision to back out of the project. 5 North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson during the first half of the game between North Carolina and the Duke Blue Devils at Dean E. Boddy's message that negotiations took a turn came a week after assistant director of football operations Bobby Teahan wrote in a Feb. 24 email to school administrators, including athletic director Bubba Cunningham, that 'this production is at the request of Coach Belichick.' NFL Films was set to begin filming March 1 as part of a two-month schedule on campus to capture the behind-the-scenes of Belichick's first season coaching at the college level. 5 Jordon Hudson, Lil Wayne and Bill Belichick at UNC Chapel Hill in 2025. Jordon Hudson / Instagram UNC reportedly lost out on $200,000 in facilities fees and a chance to shine a light on the program under Belichick's watch. A deal was close to being reached that HBO, NFL Films and UNC drafted a press release announcement for the show to be released around the NFL Scouting Combine, which included a quote from Belichick. Other promos featured an image of Belichick sporting a Tar Heels cut-off sweatshirt with the title, 'Hard Knocks: Offseason with Bill Belichick & The Tar Heels,' coming this summer.' Hudson has made her presence known at UNC after Belichick, 73, signed a five-year, $50 million deal to become their head football coach last December — following 24 seasons and six Super Bowl rings with the Patriots. The former cheerleader at Bridgewater State University recently attended a spring practice. But that didn't cause nearly as much as buzz as her viral cameo in Belichick's appearance on 'CBS Mornings' on Sunday. Hudson interrupted the interview after CBS's Tony Dokoupil asked about how they met. 5 Jordon Hudson reportedly interrupted Bill Belichick's interview with CBS, which aired on April 27, 2025, multiple times. 'No,' Dokoupil replied as he looked over at Hudson, who responded, 'No.' Dokoupil added that Hudson was a constant presence during the interview and that the couple was 'uncomfortable' talking about how they met. Hudson and Belichick met on a flight from Boston to Florida in 2021, according to TMZ. However, Hudson's interjection has stirred buzz that there could be more to the story. In February, Hudson shared in an Instagram post that they met on Feb. 11, 2021, and called it their 'meetiversary.' One thing has proven to be true, and that's Hudson's overwhelming presence in Belichick's work life. Hudson referred to herself as the chief operating officer of Belichick Productions in a December 2024 email to North Carolina officials, according to The Athletic, which said it was not able to identify any company registered under that name. Hudson has also been copied on some UNC emails at Belichick's request, according to multiple reports.

Eagles' Saquon Barkley says many Giants were 'super happy' he won Super Bowl

Saquon Barkley went from being part of a New York Giants team that posted double-digit losses in five of six seasons from 2018-23 to winning Super Bowl LIX in his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles. While the narrative has been that Barkley holds a grudge against the Giants, who chose not to match his three-year, $37.8 million deal with the Eagles — a negotiation which was showcased on HBO's "Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants" — the superstar running back expressed how it's more like the opposite. "That clip [of the Giants moving on from Barkley] doesn't really display my relationship I have with that organization from top to bottom. They're the people that brought me in. After the game, so many guys and people from the organization reached out to me and were super happy," Barkley said on Tuesday's edition of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." "One, for my birthday, and to see me hold that Lombardi Trophy up because they know the hard work that I put in. "That clip is in the past, and I'm happy to be an Eagle. I look at it as like Marshall Faulk — one of my favorite running backs — he played for the Colts, but he's remembered as a Ram. Now I'm just trying to be remembered as an Eagle." Barkley, who turned 28 on Super Bowl Sunday, had a historic 2024 season with the Eagles. Rushing for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns on 5.8 yards per carry in the regular season, he became just the ninth player in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 yards in a single season. He then rushed for 499 yards and five touchdowns on 5.5 yards per carry in Philadelphia's four postseason games, with three of those scores going for at least 60 yards. Barkley rushed for just 57 yards in the Super Bowl, his second-lowest mark of the season. Granted, he also had 40 receiving yards and Philadelphia still dropped 40 points on the Chiefs. Barkley rushed for 255 yards in a Week 12 victory over the Rams, the ninth-most rushing yards in a regular-season game in NFL history. He then rushed for 205 yards against the Rams in the NFC divisional round, the fifth-most rushing yards in a postseason game in league history. In all, Barkley set the NFL record with 2,504 combined rushing yards (regular season plus postseason) in a single season. Across his six seasons with the Giants, who selected him with the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Penn State, Barkley rushed for 1,000-plus yards three times, had two seasons with 10-plus rushing touchdowns, 91 receptions in his 2018 rookie campaign and was the 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Giants made the playoffs only once with Barkley, in 2022, when they lost to the Eagles in the divisional round. Barkley missed 24 games due to injury from 2018-23, but he still ranks fourth in Giants history with 5,211 rushing yards and tied for sixth with 35 rushing touchdowns. A one-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler, Barkley helped the Eagles win their second Super Bowl in franchise history, the other coming in the 2017 season. Report: Saquon Barkley once passed on Giants offer that exceeded Eagles deal

On Sunday night, Saquon Barkley picked up his first Super Bowl championship as the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs. Unsurprisingly, that thrust the New York Giants back into the spotlight. The entire NFL world saw the divorce between Barkley and the Giants play out on 'Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants' back in July. It became a viral topic of discussion that persisted throughout the year as the former No. 2 overall pick put up historic numbers. Although exact contractual details were not shared during Hard Knocks, a recent report by Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post suggests the Giants and Barkley parted ways over just $1.5 million in guaranteed money over the course of three seasons. Had the Giants upped their own final offer to him, made in July 2023, by about $1.5 million guaranteed over three years, Barkley never would've reached free agency, and HBO's 'Hard Knocks' would've been boring television. The Eagles' season might be over. That minuscule amount of money set in motion a remarkable fall from grace for the Giants and the ascension of the Philadelphia Eagles to the NFL's elite. But there's still more to the story. Greg Bishop of Sports Illustrated recently sat down with Barkley's trainer, Ryan Flaherty, who informed the publication that New York once offered the running back a larger deal than the one he signed with Philadelphia, but it was rebuffed. In regard to Saquon Barkley's contract with the Eagles, his trainer, Ryan Flaherty, says one Giants offer came in higher than what Barkley signed for in Philadelphia. He shares this story to illuminate Barkley's mindset. The running back viewed that calculus in multiple ways. He wasn't happy with how the Giants handled the end in New York. He never said so publicly. He understood the tension. And, while he reconciled the tension with his internal misgivings, he still wanted to remain loyal. Even before this season. When Giants brass decided to move on, he saw not fewer dollars in Philadelphia but a realistic chance to win a Super Bowl. 'It's rare upon rare for someone to go to a division rival and everybody just be like, 'Well, we respect you because of how you handled that,'' Flaherty said. 'He held to his principles. That's who he is.' It can be true that the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen mishandled the situation with Barkley and also true that Barkley turned down a fair offer. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. Unfortunately for Schoen, these new revelations that are coming from the Barkley camp (and not the Giants), won't be enough to end the relentless criticism and mockery.
