17th Annual Sioux City St. Patrick's Day Parade

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — People gathered in downtown Sioux City on Monday for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade route went along Historic 4th Street from Iowa Street to Nebraska Street. The route normally ends at Water Street and the Hard Rock Casino Hotel & Resort, but due to traffic concerns, the parade ended at Nebraska Street. This is the 17th year of bringing the Irish culture and community spirit to the downtown area. Community organizations, businesses, musicians, and families gather to show off their Irish spirit while tossing candy out to paradegoers. Event organizers said when the parade first started back in 2009, they had 6 floats. Now, the parade has 60 to 70 floats. North Sioux City council answers questions about upcoming election 'It's so important because we didn't celebrate the heritage of the Irish in Sioux City when I first came in (19)98. Nobody was out, nobody did anything, we didn't have a parade. Families didn't wear green to the elementary schools, any of that stuff. I think the parade has brought attention to this day,' said Mac Dolan, co-creator of the Sioux City St. Patrick's Day Parade. Dolan said seeing everyone out wearing the color green on St. Patrick's Day makes the hard work of planning and organizing the parade worth it. Officials say plans are already underway for next year's parade. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
