FIFA's inaugural Club World Cup set to kick off in the U.S. amid challenges

FIFA's billion-dollar gamble to revolutionize club soccer begins a week on Sunday with plenty of cash up for grabs but questionable enthusiasm as 32 teams prepare to contest the expanded Club World Cup in 12 stadiums across the United States. The tournament — designed as a glittering showcase ahead of the 2026 World Cup — has had to contend with the prospect of empty seats along with controversial qualification rules and player welfare concerns after an exhausting European season. Lionel Messi's Inter Miami face Saudi Arabia's Al Ahly in the opening fixture on June 15 at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, with tickets still widely available days before kickoff.

DeSantis seeks to avoid repeat of Copa America chaos with new trespassing law

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday signed eight bills, including a trespassing measure that takes aim at unruly sports fans and a bill that will allow wine to be sold in more containers. The trespassing bill (HB 1447) includes third-degree felony charges for people who, without authorization, enter or remain in ticketed events of more than 5,000 people. The law, which took effect immediately, was crafted in response to the 2024 Copa America final, an international soccer match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens that was delayed nearly 90 minutes as thousands of fans without tickets rushed past security. The wine bill (SB 578), which will take effect July 1, will allow the sale of wine in any container of 5.16 gallons. Current law limits such 5.16-gallon sales to reusable containers.

Donald Trump risks the wrath of daughter Ivanka and granddaughter Arabella after latest Taylor Swift diss

Donald Trump could be in hot water with his daughter and granddaughter over his continued targeting of Taylor Swift. The President, 78, posted on his Truth Social app on Friday that the Style singer is 'no longer hot' since he publicly blasted her. 'Has anyone noticed that, since I said "I hate Taylor Swift," she's no longer "HOT?"' he wrote, seemingly taking credit what her perceived loss in popularity. The post could ruffle some feathers in his immediate family, as both his daughter Ivanka Trump, 43, and her daughter Arabella, 13, are huge fans of the hitmaker. In October, Ivanka treated Arabella to a Swift concert in Miami, despite her dad's public dislike of the singer. The businesswoman took the teen to the Eras Tour concert at the Hard Rock Stadium, according to Page Six. The former advisor to the president accompanied her firstborn and friends 'to see one of her daughter's favorite artists,' a source shared. Ivanka previously gave a glimpse of her Arabella's love for the pop superstar in July while celebrating the teen's 13th birthday. She posted a photo of a heart-shaped birthday cake emblazoned with Swift's Blank Space lyric, 'Boys only want love if it's torture.' Once sliced open, the cake appeared to be filled with a red icing or dye to mimic blood. Posting an image of the celebratory dessert to Instagram, Ivanka captioned it, 'Best cake for my favorite Swiftie.' While the mother-daughter duo haven't been shy about supporting Swift's music, President Trump has been on a vendetta against the songstress. Trump has taken multiple shots at Swift over the years, particularly after she endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the 2024 election, Swift endorsed Trump's rival yet again, announcing her support for Kamala Harris right after the September presidential debate. 'I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,' she wrote. 'I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,' Swift wrote. 'I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.' She signed her post 'childless cat lady,' a barb aimed at Vice President JD Vance, who at the time was in hot water for insulting single women with cats. Trump posted 'I hate Taylor Swift' on Truth Social in response to the pop star's endorsement of Harris. At the time, Trump's spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt accused Swift of not understanding average Americans. Leavitt said Harris was part of an 'elite' that does not comprehend the struggle of 'everyday' workers. 'It's further evidence that the Democrat Party, unfortunately, is the party of the wealthy elite,' Leavitt said of Swift's endorsement. 'Taylor Swift may make great music, but she does not understand the struggles of everyday, hardworking families, and President Trump is speaking on behalf of those hardworking, struggling families who don't get the privilege, like Taylor Swift, of living in a gated community.' Swift is the wealthiest female singer in the world, according to Forbes, with a net worth estimated around a staggering $1.6 billion. She also said in a 2019 interview with The Guardian that she supported Hilary Clinton over Trump in the 2016 election.

My day with Brooklyn Beckham as he left his worries behind (at 140mph)

It is a thick, soupy morning at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham is surrounded. The thicket of cameras move as a pack, lenses trained on his face (mostly the young David Beckham, his father, with something of his mother Victoria around the eyes). As he pulls down the visor on a pink racing helmet they continue to snap, shutters clicking like cicadas. Over the past week, Brooklyn — influencer, one-time footballer, photographer, chef, husband of the billionaire heiress Nicola Peltz and the eldest of David and Victoria's four children — has sparked an internet frenzy after he failing to attend his father's marathon 50th birthday celebrations. These included a black-tie dinner at their £12 million Cotswolds home, a vineyard trip to Saint-Émilion
