‘Rude': Polish woman's befitting reply to trolls mistaking her Indian husband for tour guide goes viral

A Polish woman recently shared online her frustration over a recurring and uncomfortable experience involving her Indian husband. In her post on Instagram, Gabriela opened up about the awkward assumptions people in India often make about their relationship. Gabriela said that whenever she and her husband, Hardik Varma, visit new places in India, locals frequently mistake him for her tour guide or driver. 'The most awkward moment whenever we come to a new place in India,' she wrote in the caption. 'We wouldn't talk about it but sadly it is NOT a rare occurrence anymore. Basically every second shopkeeper or taxi/auto driver assumes that Hardik is my tour guide and in some circumstances my driver… Why?? Gabriela added. Expressing her disbelief and irritation, she further wrote, 'Which girl walks around keeping hands and taking 1000s pictures with her tour guide??' Gabriela also shared a lip-syncing video alongside her husband, calling out the behaviour as rude. The viral clip shows the couple sitting on a couch. Dressed in all-white ensembles, Gabriela lip-synced the audio while Varma just sat next to her. 'I understand that also it's nothing wrong to be called guide. It is how we take. I had same issues not exactly yours. But we laughed on it .. played along,' a user wrote. 'Same thing happened to me when I visited My home town with my wife and family. Some Locals thought i was their tourguide,' another user commented. 'Stereotypes are strong in our minds unfortunately and I'm guessing people look at him and see a normal, middle class guy. Not flashy or modern. They assume he won't be 'good enough',' a third user reacted.

Polish Woman Calls Out Stereotypes In India: "He's My Husband, Not My Tour Guide"

A Polish content creator married to an Indian man has sparked discussion online after highlighting a stereotype she says she repeatedly encounters while travelling across India. In a viral post on Instagram, Gabriela, who often shares glimpses of her life with husband Hardik Varma, expressed frustration over how people frequently mistake her husband for her tour guide or driver. "The most awkward moment whenever we come to a new place in India. Sadly, it's NOT a rare occurrence anymore. Almost every second shopkeeper or auto/taxi driver assumes Hardik is my tour guide - and sometimes even my driver. Why?" she wrote. Questioning the assumption, she added, "Which girl walks around holding hands and taking thousands of pictures with her tour guide?" Gabriela also shared a lip-sync video with her husband, calling out such behaviour as "rude", and urged people to move past outdated assumptions about interracial or intercultural couples. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gabriela & Hardik Varma | Travel & Indian Culture (@hardikandgabi) The post quickly went viral, with social media users both supporting her message and sharing similar experiences. Others acknowledged the deep-rooted biases that still exist when it comes to cross-cultural relationships in India. A user commented, "Maybe you should marry again in India with a big announcement like your motortour." Another user wrote, "You both look good i dont understand why ppl are suggesting barber & gym for why ppl find it difficult to accept the truth that human beings come in diff shades, shapes & sizes! If everyone has to be similar, then no one will be unique! Lets live without judgements!"

‘He's my husband, not driver': Polish woman slams stereotypes faced in India

A Polish woman called out a frustrating pattern she claimed repeats itself every time she visits a new place in India with her husband, people assuming he's her driver or tour who is married to an Indian man, Hardik Varma, shared her experience in a video post on Instagram. Addressing the recurring issue that she described as 'awkward and disappointing,' she said, "This is rude." advertisementThe couple, often seen travelling together, have apparently been on the receiving end of mistaken assumptions from shopkeepers, taxi drivers, and locals. "The most awkward moment is whenever we come to a new place in India. We wouldn't talk about it but sadly it is NOT a rare occurrence anymore," she said in her post."Basically, every second shopkeeper or taxi/auto driver assumes that Hardik is my tour guide and in some circumstances my driver Why??" she post didn't stop at the complaint. Gabriela went on to defend her husband's presence beside her, saying, 'Which girl walks around keeping hands and taking 1000s pictures with her tour guide??'She accompanied her message with a lip-syncing reel, calling out such assumptions as outright a look at her post here: advertisementSocial media users flooded the comments section. While several users defended the couple, others tossed in jokes.'Maybe you should marry again in India with a big announcement like your motor tour!'a user said, while another added, 'To be honest, he looks like one. Get him a new barber.'One of the users recalled how their friend played along with the assumption: 'He started telling people a fake story of what it takes to become a 'Gori mam' tour guide. In no time, he was surrounded by men genuinely interested in switching careers.''Most husbands, by default, are tour guides and drivers for their wives and kids. It comes with the job,' said a user. Gabriela's message cut through clearly. Some assumptions are no longer harmless. And next time someone sees a cross-cultural couple holding hands, maybe they'll think 'husband' before 'driver'.

Polish woman defends Indian husband mistaken for her driver, internet rolls its eyes

A Polish woman's post, venting her frustration over a recurring and uncomfortable experience involving her Indian husband, has prompted opinionated remarks from social media users. In her post, Gabriela alleged that every other person in India thinks her husband is her driver or tour guide. 'The most awkward moment whenever we come to a new place in India. We wouldn't talk about it but sadly it is NOT a rare occurrence anymore. Basically every second shopkeeper or taxi/auto driver assumes that Hardik is my tour guide and in some circumstances my driver… Why??' Gabriela wrote. She continued, 'Which girl walks around keeping hands and taking 1000s pictures with her tour guide??' She completed her post with a lip-syncing video in which she called out people as rude. The video features her with her husband, Hardik Varma. A post shared by Gabriela & Hardik Varma | Travel & Indian Culture (@hardikandgabi) An individual joked, 'Maybe you should marry again in India with a big announcement like your motor tour!' Another added, 'To be honest, he looks like one. Get him a new barber.' A third posted, 'He needs to hit the gym. He looks like a driver.' A fourth commented, 'The same thing happened to me when I visited my home town with my wife and family. Some locals thought I was their tour guide, lol.' A fifth wrote, 'Same here, with every friend. We weren't holding hands, though, hahaha, but we were with his wife and a son, and he is a doctor, and still, people thought he was my driver. On another occasion, a different friend decided to make fun of people, and he confirmed that he was my tour guide. He started telling people a fake story of what needed to be done and what courses to complete to become a 'Gori mam' tour guide, and in no time, he found himself surrounded by quite a large group of males interested in this new career.'
