Factory making spurious IMFL busted near Jamnagar
Rajkot: In dry Gujarat, Jamnagar police busted an illegal liquor manufacturing unit on the outskirts of the city and seized about 700 litres of spurious Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) along with raw materials and equipment used to produce it. The liquor was being made in a water tank. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the factory at Navy Moda village near Jamnagar and arrested six persons. According to police, the operation was a joint venture led by two residents of the area, Hardipsinh alias Lalo Jadeja and Shrirajsinh alias Siddhrajsinh Zala. They were allegedly collaborating with Arjunsinh Sodha, Suryapratapsinh Rathod, Saitansinh Rathod and Savarlal Mevala, all of whom are from Rajasthan. "These persons were producing spurious liquor in a water tank by mixing alcohol spirit, chemicals and coloured liquids to replicate the taste and appearance of IMFL," said a police officer involved in the raid. "The accused made couterfeit labels of liquor brands and were packaging it in sealed bottles and pouches. They were using equipment such as beakers and an alcohol meter to measure and mix the concoction. They used alcohol spirit as the raw material and used various chemicals to approximate the colour and flavour of the brand, to deceive customer into thinking they were drinking the original brand. The specifications of the raw material used will be known after laboratory tests. This operation came to light after police intercepted three persons near Dhrol with a consignment of liquor. During their interrogation, they revealed they had sourced the liquor from Zala, which led to the discovery of the factory. Police are probing whether the liquor was supplied to other districts as well. Seized during the raid - 600 litres of loose liquor worth Rs 2.40 lakh - 1,000 liquor bottles - Chemicals and colourants used in manufacturing - Bottle caps and 1-litre plastic pouches - Cartons for storage and transport - Beakers, an alcohol-level meter - Three bottle-sealing machines
