Heritage experts seek museum for Barabati Fort artefacts
: A delegation of heritage experts, historians, and local residents submitted a memorandum to Odisha governor Haribabu Kambhampati on Thursday, advocating for establishment of a dedicated museum to house artefacts excavated from the ancient . Many valuable artefacts from previous excavations have been dispersed to museums across India, prompting calls for their return to their original context. "Barabati Fort is not just a structure; it's a living testimony of Odisha's glorious past. Preserving its legacy through a dedicated museum would help future generations connect with their roots," said historian Tarun Sahu. Utsav Charan Das, a Padma Shri awardee who was part of the delegation, stressed the fort's cultural significance. "Barabati Fort is intertwined with the soul of Cuttack. Restoring and celebrating its culture is not just our duty but a tribute to our ancestors," he said, adding that a museum would attract visitors nationwide and showcase the fort's glory. Heritage expert Dipayan Pattnaik highlighted the potential benefits of the initiative. "Having these relics in a special museum would be a matter of pride for the people of Cuttack and Odisha," he said, noting that it would boost heritage tourism and historical awareness. The memorandum urged the Governor to direct the state govt to collaborate with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and local authorities for the museum's establishment. The proposal also includes plans for an interpretation centre to educate visitors about the fort's history, architecture, and cultural significance.

Cuttack: Odisha governor Haribabu Kambhampati highlighted the crucial role of city-level development in realising the vision of a developed India, during his one day visit to Cuttack on Thursday. He reviewed the progress of key development projects and welfare schemes, urging officials to ensure that the benefits reach every eligible citizen. "To achieve the goal of developed India, we have to first fulfill the dream of developed Cuttack and developed Odisha. Rather than waiting for national progress to reflect locally, we must proactively transform Cuttack from the grassroots," he said. During his review meeting with department officers, the governor was briefed on significant projects currently underway in the district. These include, Mahanadi Riverfront Development Project, Tarakshi Hub, SCB Medical College Hospital expansion, Chandi Mandir Redevelopment and restoration of tourism infrastructure at Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das' birthplace in Satyabhamapur. Collector (Cuttack) Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said these projects are progressing steadily and will be completed within the scheduled time. The governor stressed the need for strengthening implementation of welfare schemes such as PM Awas Yojana, Subhadra Yojana, Mudra Yojana and Lakhpati Didi Yojana. He urged banks to promote financial literacy and ease access to insurance and loan schemes. Later in the day, the governor interacted with citizens, beneficiaries, and civil society groups, expressing satisfaction over the city's development trajectory. Senior govt officials, MLAs, and civic leaders attended the day-long review.
