5 arrested every day in Mohali since March under ‘Yudh Nashiya Virudh'

Mohali: In a sweeping crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Mohali have arrested 447 accused in the past 90 days as part of the statewide 'Yudh Nashiya Virudh' campaign. This means five arrests were made every day, on an average, underlining the district police's zero-tolerance to the drug menace. SSP (Mohali) Harmandeep Singh Hans said the campaign led to the registration of 277 FIRs under the NDPS Act across various police stations in the district from March to May. According to police data, March saw the highest activity with 99 FIRs and 143 arrests, followed by 82 FIRs and 142 arrests in April. May witnessed 96 FIRs and 162 arrests, indicating a steady escalation in enforcement efforts. "Our teams have worked relentlessly. We not only arrested 447 drug traffickers but also succeeded in significantly disrupting the supply chain," SSP Hans said. "Last year, the conviction rate had reached an impressive 86%, which reflects the strength of our legal follow-through," he added. Among the drugs most frequently seized, ganja topped the list, with a total recovery of 58.69kg. This was followed by 38.23kg of poppy husk, 32.45kg of opium, 3.53kg of heroin, and 2.7 kg of charas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Police recovered 1,26,382 banned capsules and tablets, along with five bottles of illegal cough syrup. In a move aimed at financially crippling drug networks, the police demolished six illegal structures belonging to four identified drug traffickers during the campaign. "This sends a strong message to those profiting from the illegal drug trade that their operations will not just be shut down—they will be dismantled entirely," the SSP said. He warned drug smugglers and repeat offenders of dire consequences, including stringent legal action and the confiscation of illegally acquired property. "We are committed to eliminating the drug trade from our soil. Under the leadership of chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, we are pursuing a zero-tolerance policy," he added. The police have appealed to the public to play an active role by reporting drug-related activities. The success of this campaign marks a critical stride in Punjab's ongoing war against narcotics, aiming to safeguard future generations from the grip of addiction. 1 2 Panchkula: The police on Wednesday demolished an illegally constructed house belonging to a habitual drug smuggler in Chatauli Kalan village as part of the ongoing state-wide anti-drug campaign 'Yudh Nasheya Virudh'. The house, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh and built on panchayat land, belonged to Dilpreet Singh, a repeat offender currently in judicial custody. He is involved in six criminal cases, including four under the NDPS Act, registered in Ropar and Mohali. Among these is a serious case registered at Sadar Kurali police station in 2022, involving the seizure of 445 grams of heroin. The demolition drive was jointly conducted by the Mohali Police and the rural development and panchayat department. It was led by DSP Mullanpur Mohit Aggarwal and SHO Sadar Kurali Gauravbans Singh, under the supervision of SSP Mohali Harmandeep Singh Hans. DSP Aggarwal said that illegal encroachment by the accused on government land behind the property was also halted. "This action sends a clear message to those profiting from the drug trade. The Punjab government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy," he said. Police have also initiated proceedings under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, resulting in the attachment and freezing of two vehicles and one property identified as proceeds of drug trafficking. "Strong legal and financial action is being taken to break the backbone of drug networks," DSP Aggarwal said. SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, stating that anyone found involved in drug-related activities will face severe consequences, including the seizure of illegal property. Local residents, along with sarpanch Gurpreet Singh, welcomed the move and praised the administration's firm stance. "This is a much-needed step and will deter others from engaging in such unlawful activities," the sarpanch said. Naib tehsildar Majri Rajveer Singh Marwah and block panchayat officer Mandeep Singh were also present during the operation. Mullanpur police sub-division has recently arrested 70 persons in connection with 40 FIRs related to narcotics. Several of these offenders have been referred to de-addiction and rehabilitation centres for treatment.
