A teacher disappeared on a walk. A stranger was convicted of murder.
If not for a business owner snapping photos of suspicious behavior on a summer night two years ago, authorities said, Mariame Toure Sylla's accused killer might never have been caught.
Sylla, a 59-year-old elementary schoolteacher in Prince George's County, Maryland, was killed in a homicide by undetermined means and dismembered by a stranger in July 2023 after going out for a routine prayer walk. On Tuesday, after deliberating for about an hour, a jury in Prince George's Circuit Court convicted Harold Francis Landon III, 34, of first-degree murder.
