HARRY Ramsden's will be selling fish and chips for just 7p to celebrate its new retro-inspired menu. The fish and chip restaurant chain, which was founded in West Yorkshire in 1928, will be hosting the event at its Bournemouth site on Saturday, May 24. The one-day event will allow customers to purchase fish and chips at the original 1928 price of 7p, and will be available exclusively for takeaway. The event will also celebrate the relaunch of Harry Ramsden's original beef dripping fish and chips, which gave the brand its worldwide fame. A separate pan will be kept for customers who prefer an alternative to beef dripping. The Bournemouth restaurant will also be launching a new retro-inspired menu, featuring interpretations of classic dishes, as well as a heritage-inspired cocktail list. Inside the restaurant, guests can take photos in a classic photo booth in collaboration with Joe & Seph's. Customers who share their photos will have the chance to win a bundle of popcorn-themed prizes. A new sweet and beach shop will also open, selling traditional confectionery and exclusive Harry Ramsden's merchandise. To encourage diners to explore the full menu, anyone who redeems the 7p offer and signs up for the loyalty programme will receive 20 per cent off and a free dessert on their next visit to the restaurant, valid for one month. A spokesperson for Harry Ramsden's said: "The event is a tribute to Harry Ramsden's remarkable story. "Founded in 1928 in Guiseley, West Yorkshire, what began as a modest hut quickly became a symbol of British hospitality and culinary tradition." "Nearly a century later, that spirit is being reignited." Only 1,928 portions of the 7p fish and chips will be available, so customers are encouraged to arrive early.

A post on their website said they were: "celebrating the golden age of fish and chips", by rolling prices back to their 1928 value - the year the company was founded. They added: "This exciting launch event celebrates the rich heritage of the Harry Ramsden's brand with a fresh take on seaside dining." The discounted prices were also accompanied by a new retro-inspired restaurant menu. The new menu includes the brand's iconic classic beef dripping fish and chips which helped the company attain worldwide fame. Describing the unique menu change, they wrote: "We're also proud to announce the return of beef dripping as our frying method in Bournemouth; just like the original Harry Ramsden's did in the Golden Age of Fish and Chips." They do still have a separate fryer available for those with dietary requirements. Although the event didn't begin until 11:30, residents had already begun to queue before 10am. Mohammed Shaikh, the General Manager at Harry Ramsden's told the Bournemouth Daily Echo: "We've got five to six people working in the kitchen and four on security." Mohammed added: 'Seven-pence fish and chips is about taking it back to how it was back in the day. It's nostalgic. Attendees were excited to try the new beef dripping version, and to make the most of the sense of community the event had inspired. One customer said: " 'Everyone's here, it's just beautiful. You can see the sea while you queue – can't beat that." Others described the event as "exciting" and "nostalgic." Another said: 'I know all about their history – my grandma, my granddad, we all love their fish and chips, and we love a good queue in this country, don't we?' Alongside fish and chips, the store also offered a sweet and beach shop on the day selling traditional sweets and exclusive merchandise. Families could also keep their kids entertained with the retro-style carnival complete with seaside games and a photo booth. Those who signed up to the loyalty programme on the day will receive additional benefits, including a 20% discount and a free dessert voucher. It comes after restaurants and pubs across the country lowered their prices to celebrate VE Day earlier this month.

Thousands of people have queued outside Harry Ramsden's in Bournemouth, Dorset, as the eatery offers up fish and chips for just seven pence. The world-famous fish and chip shop has celebrated their relaunch of a classic dish by giving out almost 2,000 portions for the original price it was offered for when it opened in 1928. Hoards of hungry seaside goers today enjoyed the return of its classic beef dripping fish and chips, which made the brand popular. Staff at the shop had been planning for this day for over eight months, but were still shocked by the thousands of punters who showed up to the shop, which sits around 100 metres from Bournemouth Pier. Mohammad Shaikh, General Manager at Harry Ramsden's, said: 'We were expecting a big queue and people started lining up before 10am. We've got five to six people working in the kitchen and four on security. 'A total of 1,928 portions were prepared in honour of the year the brand was founded. 'Seven-pence fish and chips is about taking it back to how it was back in the day. It's nostalgic. 'We expected a lot of people, maybe not quite this many, but it's fish and chips, so I'm not surprised.' Mohammad Shaikh, General Manager at Harry Ramsden's, said: 'A total of 1,928 portions were prepared in honour of the year the brand was founded' Local resident Rachel Cowie said: 'I know all about their history - my grandma, my granddad, we all love their fish and chips, and we love a good queue in this country, don't we? 'I was lucky to be involved in a social media campaign for them back in January. I did some filming and in return got £150 worth of vouchers that was lovely. The campaign did really well.' Jeanette Kowski added: 'I've had Harry Ramsden's quite often. But the experience of queuing up for it, for just seven pence and in beef dripping that's something special. I've never had it looked like that before.' Alan Ball commented: 'There are so many people here. I thought I'd better come and join the queue too. It's one of my favourite dishes..' Another resident, Ingrid, added: 'Everyone's here, it's just beautiful. You can see the sea while you queue - can't beat that. 'They've gone back to the 1928 style, it's like stepping back in time, when people would queue for proper fish and chips.'

This is where "Frank's RedHot's signature flavour & heat meets Harry Ramsden's world famous fish batter, kicking your Friday treat up a notch". You'll be able to get a free takeaway portion of Fish and Frank's for anyone who can prove their name is either Harry, Harriet, Frank, or Francesca.
