Father in ICU after Lakewood shooting, family shares experience
A Tacoma father is in the ICU tonight after a mass shooting at Harry Todd Park in Lakewood sent seven people to the hospital on Wednesday. According to a fundraiser started to help the family, 'On May 28th, Ron Jackson was spending a beautiful, sunny day at Harry Todd Park in Lakewood, WA with his wife, Leighten, and their five young children — four girls and one boy. It was the first hot day of the year, and they were simply enjoying a peaceful afternoon together at the lake. In an instant, everything changed." 'And he's like I'm shot, I'm shot, I'm shot you know. And there's just like blood splitting out, splitting out,' said Ron's wife, Leighten. Ron was shot in the abdomen and was hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting. He is now in the ICU facing major surgery on his liver. 'My son is here and he's like, I don't want my daddy to die. I don't want him to die, you know,' recounted Leighten. Leighten shared the family's harrowing experience with KIRO 7's Samantha Lomibao. 7 shot at park in Washington state, police say
LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Seven people were shot and wounded, three of them critically, at a park in a suburb of Tacoma, Wash., on Wednesday evening, police said. Officers found a 'very hectic scene' when they responded to calls reporting shots fired at Harry Todd Park in Lakewood just before 8 p.m., Lakewood Police Sgt. Charles Porche told KOMO-TV. He said medics transported five people to hospitals and two others got to hospitals on their own. The Seattle Times reported that Porche said three people were in critical condition. Investigators don't know how many shooters were involved or whether the victims were targeted, he said. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday. More than 100 people were at the park next to American Lake when shots were fired, Porche said. 'We've had these couple days here where the sun finally came out and it's been a gorgeous time for people to get out and enjoy the park, the lake and then you have something like this that happens,' he said. 'It is one of the great tragedies, right? You don't want anybody to get shot and then you end up with seven different victims that happen out of this act of violence that, so far, we don't know why.' BREAKING: Seven hospitalized in Lakewood park mass shooting
Seven people were hospitalized following a shooting in Lakewood's Harry Todd Park Wednesday evening. According to Lakewood police, officers responded to reports of shots fired around 8 p.m. Officers arrived at a 'hectic scene', with families and individuals running from the park. Five people were taken to hospital by emergency crews, while another two victims self-transported. At least three people are reported in critical condition. West Pierce Fire and Rescue confirmed that multiple people were taken to multiple hospitals in the area. At this time, police have not detained any suspects.
