Karnal marks International Olympic Day
Karnal: The Haryana Olympic Association (HOA) hosted a state-level dragon boat competition in Karnal to celebrate the International Olympic Day on Monday. Athletes from all across the state participated in the only canal in Haryana where this specific sport is played.
HOA president Meenu Beniwal judged the competition.
Beniwal said Olympic Day was celebrated after a while, but it leaves a message among the youth to win more and more medals for the nation in the forthcoming Olympics in 2036. He added that the organisation has planned to establish several centres for distinct sports in the state to facilitate budding athletes.
He said that political dynamics should not interfere in the sports industry because athletes become reluctant to face trials and urge to participate directly. "The aim is to maintain transparency in sports and avoid political interference at any cost. He mentioned that Haryana holds the maximum raw material for inter events because the youth are under training in each village of the state. Such youth sum up to 55 per cent, which is huge," said Beniwal .
