Wild Padel shines light on sporting community in Qatif

RIYADH: Wild Padel, a family-owned club in Qatif, is doing more than just riding the wave of a fast-growing sport but rather redefining the essence of community in it. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport Established in 2023, Wild Padel is led by the Al-Bayat family members of Ahmed Muneer, Hassan Ali, Abdullah Jamal, and Abdullah Muneer. Ali told Arab News that although Wild Padel is not the first padel club in Qatif, it has quickly distinguished itself through its high-quality facilities, engaging community events, and strong commitment to promoting padel in the region. 'Despite not being the pioneer, it has become one of the most recognized and active clubs in the area,' he said. 'Much of this success is thanks to the dedicated Wild Padel team and the supportive Wild Padel family who continue to train and play at the club.' In December 2024, Wild Padel won the inaugural edition of the Barn's Saudi Padel League for men against the highly competitive and respected team Padel X. 'While the challenge was intense, the strength, unity, and determination of our players brought home the title,' Ali said. A sign of the community and camaraderie established at the club is the list of colorful nicknames that the members have developed. The victorious team featured Captain Hassan Al-Abdullah, Abdullah 'Mystro' Al-Faraj, Abdulaziz 'The Engineer' Al-Abdullah, Abdullah 'GOAT' Al-Abdullah, Qassim 'The Golden Boy' Al-Obaidan, Ali 'MVP' Dawani, Jose 'Fighter' Arcos, Ali 'The Talented' Hassan, Kumail 'Leader' Al-Abbas, and Ali 'Team Spirit' Al-Nasir. Ali highlighted that the idea to set up Wild Padel was inspired by the rapid growth of the sport and its strong potential for future expansion in the Kingdom. 'The club was established to align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by promoting active lifestyles, supporting community engagement, and building a strong base of local talent. One of Wild Padel's key goals is to develop skilled players through its academy, ultimately contributing to the Kingdom's sporting success on both national and international levels,' he said. Ali notes that with a growing number of passionate players and rising young talents, the Kingdom is well-positioned to become a regional and global hub for padel in the coming years. 'Padel has a promising future in the Kingdom, driven by strong support from the Ministry of Sports under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal. The efforts of the Saudi Padel Committee, led by Mugren Al-Mugren, alongside contributions from both governmental and private clubs, are accelerating the sport's development.'

PHOTO: KBA Aram Bagh Club defeated Karachi Basketball Club after a tough contest by 18-17 points to clinch the 6th Slice Mango Juice Cup 3x3 Basketball title at the Abdul Nasir international court on Sunday night. Prolific Hassan Ali was declared the Best Player of the Tournament, while Abdul Rafay was recognized as the Emerging Player. The tournament was held Under the auspices of Firdous Ittehad, with the permission of Karachi Basketball Association and the support of Pakola Beverages Company. The chief guest at the final was KBA Vice President and renowned basketball player Ameen Pasha, while the President of the ceremony was MCB Vice President Muhammad Haider Khan. The guest of honor was Zulfiqar Abbas Khan from UBL. Director Sports, Commissioner Karachi Ghulam Muhammad Khan and other notable personalities were also present. Ameen Pasha expressed his delight at the fine standard of competition in the tournament and expressed his heartfelt thanks to sponsors for organizing the tournament for the sixth consecutive year. He announced that a high-level tournament for girls and boys would be organized from May 15. He also announced that on May 1, exhibition matches for girls and boys titled 'Pakistan Zindabad' would be held. During the final, Engineer Zain-ul-Abideen Channa, Hassan Qawaya, Hassan Ali, Muhammad Moaz Ashraf, and Abdullah Imam showcased excellent performances. Engineer Zain-ul-Abideen Channa was named Man of the Match in the final. In the final, Amir Sharif, Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Raj Kumar Lakhwani, Naeem Ahmed, Muhammad Usman Khan, and Muhammad Ashraf performed the duties of referees and technical officials.

South Green advances to boys final

South Green secured a place in the final by defeating Malir District in the boys semifinal with a score of 52-42 in the ongoing Kashmir Day Rangers Cup Basketball Tournament. For the winning team, Zain-ul-Abideen Channa scored 20 points, Hassan Ali scored 15 points, and Daniyal Khan Marwat also contributed 15 points. On the runner-up team, Sameer Saleem scored 14 points, Raza Ahmed scored 12 points, and Abdul Qadir added 10 points. The tournament is being played at International Abdul Nasir Basketball Court, Aram Bagh, and is organized with the collaboration of Engineering Solutions Company, 31 Wing Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers and Karachi Basketball Association, The match was witnessed by officials from the Commissioner Karachi Office, including Ahmer Pasha, Ali Gohar, and Ghulam Muhammad Khan, along with DSR Rangers Farooq Bhatti. Technical officials and referees for the match included Zahid Malik, Amir Ashraf, Zaeema Khatoon, Muhammad Al-Sharaf, Naeem Ahmed, and Abbas Khan. At the beginning of the match, prayers were offered for the late mother of Shahid Satti, Secretary of Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS).
