The initiative targets women starting from the age of 18 and includes screening for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, as well as raising awareness about risk factors and providing reproductive health and family planning education.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups and the effectiveness of early detection. Dr. Hatem Amin, the Executive Director of the initiative, highlighted the comprehensive nature of the services and the commitment to providing free treatment. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar also added the ministry of health is making sure that all the treatment centers are up to date with the newest research, so they can become research centers in the future.
The initiative follows the latest global protocols for breast cancer treatment, through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population, as well as the implementation of these protocols in 14 centers affiliated with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, all free of charge. The ministry is currently equipping these centers for applied research, aiming to establish advanced research centers in tumor treatment, in line with the political leadership's vision to prioritize public health.
The Women's Health Initiative reflects the Egyptian government's commitment to public health and its dedication to providing accessible healthcare services to all citizens.
