We asked, you answered Every month, we take a deep dive into a topic that's making headlines in a series called KN Explains. Then, we ask you to Have Your Say by sharing your own experiences and opinions. Here's a selection of thoughtful answers submitted by kids from across Canada. Swipe through to read them all! Have you noticed an increase in the price of your favourite snacks? That's due to something called inflation. Inflation is the general and ongoing increase in the price of goods and services. And if it seems like it's happening all around you, you're not wrong. In June 2022, inflation in Canada rose to the highest level it's been in more than 30 years. According to experts, more recently, inflation has remained steady — between a rate of 2 to 3 per cent. Our question this month was in response to inflation. We asked you: How do you manage your money to get the most out of it? Kids across Canada submitted their answers. We received many thoughtful responses and selected a few to showcase. Wirral Council could close six more libraries following cuts
Six libraries could close following cuts to council services, a local authority has Council said on Friday that it was proposing to operate only eight libraries going forward, which meant six libraries could be facing closure if the council stopped running them and no one could take them over. The plans come following £250,000 cuts to council service which were unanimously approved earlier this year.A public survey that will allow residents to have their say on the issue is expected to go live on 6 May 6 will run until 1 July on the authority's Have Your Say website. The council said the proposals would create "comprehensive, modern, accessible and sustainable facilities that will meet the needs of Wirral communities", adding this would be in line with the law. It said its proposal "recognises the broadening role of libraries in today's society and sets out plans to transform the digital offer that is at the heart of a modern, future-focused service."Going forward, the council is expected to set up a library committee which will determine how the local authority will provide a service going forward. These meetings will be held in the council is proposing to keep eight libraries open. These are Bebington Central Library, Birkenhead Central Library, Eastham, Heswall, Moreton, West Kirby Central Library, Wallasey Central Library, and to the council's list of libraries on its website, this means six libraries could be facing closure if the council stops running them and no one can take them over. These are Beechwood Library, Greasby Library, Leasowe Community Partnership Library, Rock Ferry Library, Seacombe Community Partnership Library, and St James Community Partnership local authority closed nine libraries as part of budget cuts in 2022. Only two of these have since reopened as public-facing libraries in Wallasey Village and Pensby. Island newsagent "thrilled" after bagging national award
A COWES Newsagent has become the second Isle of Wight store to win Yodel's 'Store of The Quarter' award for outstanding service levels. Blakes News beat competition from the Deliver to Yodel Store network of over 7,000 newsagents, convenience stores, petrol stations, and supermarkets nationwide, having handled nearly 4,000 parcels in the last quarter. The store had an outstanding five star average rating from Yodel's in-house Have Your Say customer feedback survey. The Cowes store has been at the heart of the local community since Amanda and her partner Phil opened the shop in 2006 and now run the store as a family business including their daughter, Courtney. It really is a testament to how close we are as a community and as a team here at Blakes News. 'Being a part of the Deliver to Yodel Store network has been a huge boost to our business; it's really driving footfall and allowing us to provide an essential service to those living nearby. It has been a pleasure seeing the store become a vibrant community hub.' Yodel has recently seen customer-to-customer volumes surge as a result of a rise in people buying and selling on second-hand marketplaces like Vinted and eBay. Thanks to its network of shops across the country, parcel senders and recipients alike are never far from a pick-up or drop-off point.
