Kyle man arrested, charged with murder in Austin fentanyl-related death investigation
HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A Kyle man was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday following an investigation into a fentanyl-related death that occurred in December 2024. According to the Hays County Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Alan Steve Rodriguez was charged in connection with the death of a 50-year-old man found at an apartment complex in Austin. HCSO said deputies responded to a call in the 700 block of Trinity Hills Drive on Dec. 31 and found the 50-year-old man unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. 'A preliminary investigation conducted by the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division determined that the death was related to the use of fentanyl,' HCSO said. The suspected fentanyl distributor was identified as Rodriguez, according to HCSO's Repeat Offender Program. 'A parallel narcotics investigation into Rodriguez led to the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, THC, marijuana and multiple firearms,' HCSO said. Rodriguez remains in custody at the Hays County Jail on six charges and a total bond of $777,000, including $500,000 for the murder charge. 'This case reflects the Hays County Sheriff's Office's continued commitment to holding drug dealers accountable for the devastating consequences of fentanyl distribution in our community,' HCSO said. Hays County residents concerned about gang-related graffiti near neighborhood
The Brief Neighbors near the Crosswinds subdivision in Hays County are concerned about gang-related graffiti The sheriff's office is investigating, but do not have any leads A man who has been around gangs his entire life explains why gangs use graffiti HAYS COUNTY, Texas - Hays County residents are concerned about gang-related graffiti near their neighborhood. The sheriff's office said they are aware and are investigating. The backstory Blue and black spray paint was seen near the Crosswinds subdivision in Hays County. "I'm just seeing tags and stuff and then, I guess hearing what people think it might be, it gets concerning," a Hays County resident said. On fences, stop signs, and utility boxes are letters and symbols that represent at least one gang. "Nobody wants that kind of stuff around them," the Hays County resident said. Dig deeper Terrance Stone, who has been in or around gangs his entire life, said it's about jurisdiction for these groups. "Whether it be a geographical jurisdiction where they live, where they operate, where they do business, and it can be a mental jurisdiction as well. So that they can have a stronghold over the people that are involved in gangs with them. Also, an emotional jurisdiction, right, also based on fear and things like that as well," Gang intervention prevention specialist and Founder and CEO of Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy, Terrance Stone, said. He said graffiti is a way to mark the jurisdiction. "A gang will go to either their area or to a whole new area and write their neighborhood on the wall and probably write the moniker of who did it as well. It is to let the people know over there that they understand what's happening on that wall or wherever they wrote it at to see that, okay, this gang is here now, this is our territory, or just to let them know, like, hey, we came to your neighborhood, and we wrote on your neighborhood," Stone said. Stone said after analyzing this graffiti though, this group may not be as organized as they seem. "Don't be overly concerned, but be overly watchful in your community and see what's happening. Don't let them disrupt your day to day, don't let them disrupt the peace that you have within your community, but just band together," Stone said. What's next The Hays County Sheriff's Office said investigators have received reports of this graffiti, but do not have any leads at this time. They said patrol deputies that work the area are aware and will be in the area as call load allows. If anyone has any information about the graffiti, call the Hays County Sheriff's Office. Hays Sheriff, Texas law enforcement agencies investigate ‘cloned' GMC trucks
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Hays County Sheriff's Office issued a press release Thursday to announce that they had recovered four stolen trucks that had their vehicle identification numbers (VIN) cloned. 'VIN-cloned vehicles appear to be legitimate due to the VIN returning to a vehicle that is not reported as stolen,' wrote HCSO Deputy Bryant Cuadros in the release. 'The GMC Denalis were reported stolen through the Dallas Police Department, the Houston Police Department and a law enforcement agency in Connecticut.' Those trucks were sold on Facebook Marketplace for 'significantly below market value.' In total, the four trucks were worth $220,000, according to HCSO. Cuadros said in the release that HCSO will investigate the thefts further, and asked for anyone with information to contact the agency at 512-393-7800. The public can also submit tips anonymously through Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-8477. Private seller vehicle purchases carry risks, and HCSO recommends that buyers should be cautious of seemingly good deals on social media websites. It also warned about cash offers for below market value and vehicles with out of state titles. The HCSO Auto Theft Unit offers free appointments to inspect a vehicle's VIN, which can be made over the phone at 512-393-7814. Also, the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles offers a title check tool. HCSO also recommends searching online for the VIN to see if it belongs to a dealership, and checking that a car's 'infotainment center' has GPS activated at the time of purchase.
