Cheese factory 'chemical spill' leaves 17 people injured as hazard team respond

Emergency services were called to the site after the alarm was raised in the early hours of Saturday, June 7. A major incident was sparked following a suspected chemical spill at an industrial site in Northern Ireland. Emergency services were called to Leprino, a cheese factory near Magheralin in County Down, after the alarm was raised in the early hours of Saturday, June 7. ‌ The fire service were called to the scene alongside police, ambulance crews and a Hazardous Area Response Team. ‌ Following the incident 17 patients were treated. Five of those were taken to the hospital for treatment, although their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening. A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson told Belfast Live: "NIAS received reports of a potential chemical incident at an industrial site near Magheralin and dispatched a number of emergency ambulances, ambulance officers, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a doctor to the scene with a major incident being declared as a result of the number of reported casualties. "17 potential patients were assessed and five transferred to hospital (Craigavon Area Hospital, RVH and Daisy Hill) though none are thought to be in a life-threatening condition. "A further 12 patients were monitored and then discharged from the scene. "NIAS worked alongside colleagues from NIFRS and PSNI to manage the incident. West Midlands paramedics to run half marathon with stretcher

If you spot eight paramedics running a half marathon with a stretcher there's no need to Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart) from West Midlands Ambulance Service will be carrying the equipment in the Great Birmingham Run on Sunday to raise money for in full uniform and helmets, the team aims to raise £5,000 for children's charity Together for Short Lives and The Ambulance Staff Charity, which supports frontline workers. "It will be a huge challenge for us to carry all our equipment in uniform over 13.1 miles," Hart team leader Dale Wallis said. More than 15,000 people are expected in Birmingham on Sunday for the half marathon and 10k run which is now sold out. The race will start at Centenary Square, passing through places like Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston Cricket Ground before finishing in Smithfield. As part of the team's preparations, they have been waking up at 05:00 to run 5km (three miles) or 8km ( five miles) before their 12 hour shift begins."It's to build up our strength and put all our training around family life," paramedic Ben Popple said. He added that whilst he felt nervous for the event, he looked forward to having a "refreshing beverage" after crossing the finishing line. The team aim to complete at least one challenge a year for charity and a half marathon is something they have never done before as a Rob Griffiths said they had raised more than £1,000 so far and were determined to reach their "ambitious" target. A man has died and three other males have suffered life-threatening injuries following a horrific car crash in Shropshire last night, Friday, March 14. West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the collision involving a single vehicle on Offoxey Road in Tong, Shifnal, shortly after 11pm. Three ambulances, three paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, a critical care paramedic, and Hazardous Area Response Team paramedics, as well as a Critical Care Car, from Midlands Air Ambulance, attended the scene. "Sadly, it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene. 'A further three male patients from the car were assessed and had sustained life-threatening injuries. A person has been taken to hospital after a crash on the M1 eastbound just beyond the Moira junction. Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash at about 08:30 GMT on Monday. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance following initial treatment at the scene. Two rapid response paramedics, one advanced paramedic, one emergency crew and one HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) crew were despatched by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. The road was partially closed but has now been cleared.
