Local Flower Shops Face Higher Costs Ahead of Mother's Day Due to Tariffs
WRBL News 3
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)— With Mother's Day just days away, local flower shops are feeling the pressure — not just from demand, but from rising costs driven by international tariffs.
Hazel's Flowers & Gifts, a longtime staple in Midtown Columbus, says this year's floral shipments have been delayed, and prices are higher than usual.
'Between the shipping issues and increased tariffs, it's been a challenge,' said owner Hazel Thomas, who has been in business for nearly 37 years. 'But we're doing everything we can to keep our arrangements beautiful and affordable.'
Many flowers are imported from countries like Colombia and Ecuador, where tariffs and international supply chain slowdowns are raising the price of roses, lilies, and popular spring blooms.
Still, customers aren't holding back. Hazel says demand remains strong as families look to celebrate the moms and mother figures in their lives.
'It's always a meaningful holiday,' she added. 'And we'll be here making sure everyone has something special to give.'
Hazel's Flowers & Gifts is still accepting Mother's Day orders and offers delivery across the Columbus area.
