Al-Sudani meets delegation from the Iraqi Medical Association UK & EU
Baghdad-INA Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today a delegation from the Iraqi Medical Association UK & EU, comprising senior leaders of medical institutions operating in the United Kingdom and European countries. The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA):"Prime Minister Al-Sudani welcomed the delegation's visit and directed that all necessary support be provided, following the Diwani Order issued to support Iraqi physicians abroad." It added, "The Prime Minister outlined the government's health policy and recent achievements in the sector, including the enactment of the Health Insurance Law, progress on improving healthcare infrastructure, the completion of dozens of stalled projects, the adoption of the joint management model in hospital operations, and the localization of pharmaceutical industries, viewed as a cornerstone of medicine security and an integral part of national security." During the meeting, the delegation proposed a sustainable joint initiative in Iraq to provide training and medical consultation across various specialties, including preparing Iraqi doctors for the UK medical fellowship examinations and engaging in voluntary service within Iraqi healthcare institutions.

PM Al-Sudani reaffirms commitment to deliver health services across Iraq
Baghdad-INA Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani launched on Thursday, via video conference, the construction work for three hospital projects, as part of the government's efforts to develop the healthcare sector and improve medical and treatment services. 'The Prime Minister launched the construction of a 150-bed specialized hospital for pediatric cancer treatment and bone marrow transplantation at Medical City in Baghdad,' stated the Media Office of the Prime Minister in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA."The facility will include surgical operation theaters, radiology and MRI units, and a specialized outpatient clinic." The statement further stated that 'PM also launched the construction of two 100-bed hospitals in Al-Haydariya District in Najaf Governorate and Al-Majar Al-Kabir District in Maysan Governorate. These hospitals will include departments for surgery, intensive care, maternity, emergency, internal medicine, and other essential services, contributing to the improvement of healthcare delivery in both areas'. The statement also affirmed 'The Prime Minister stated that the specialized children's oncology hospital is among the most significant projects, expected to meet 40–50% of the pediatric cancer treatment demand. It will provide modern treatments using the latest medical technologies and was designed to be child- and family-friendly. He praised the contributions of business leaders and physicians to the project, calling it a humanitarian gesture and a reflection of social solidarity.' Prime Minister Al-Sudani confirmed that the hospitals in Al-Haydariya and Al-Majar Al-Kabir are part of the Iraq-China agreement, which includes the construction of 16 hospitals with a 100-bed capacity in various districts. The statement noted that 'PM Al-Sudani commend the contributions of health ministry staff and local governments in Najaf and Maysan,' highlighting that 'The government is prioritizing the construction of small and medium-sized hospitals in districts and sub-districts to deliver healthcare services nationwide and reduce workload on city hospitals'. 'This strategy addresses past planning deficiencies that focused on 500-bed hospitals, many of which were stalled,' the statement added. Prime minster Al-Sudani also stated that 'qualified companies were selected for construction based on multiple criteria to ensure accuracy, speed, and quality,' emphasizing 'the need for local governments to support the contractors to complete the projects on time'. 'The government continues to prioritize the health sector and improve service delivery and infrastructure,' PM affirmed. The statement further stated' Many hospitals have suffered from a lack of maintenance and upgrades over the years; the government is committed to completing delayed health projects,' affirming 'These efforts align with the implementation of the Health Insurance Law and the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing as part of an integrated strategy'.

$374m Chinese Investment in Iraqi Medical City
By John Lee. Iraq has signed a contract with China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to build a comprehensive Medical City in Dhi Qar Province. The 490 billion Iraqi dinar [$374 million] project was finalized under the supervision of the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund and the Ministry of Health. During the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing healthcare reform, emphasizing that Dhi Qar's citizens deserve a world-class medical facility to reduce dependence on treatment abroad. He highlighted ongoing efforts to implement the Health Insurance Law, localize pharmaceutical production, and accelerate the construction of seven hospitals across multiple provinces. The Medical City will comprise 13 integrated medical facilities, including seven hospitals with a total 700-bed capacity: 200-bed General Hospital 100-bed Pediatric Specialty Hospital 100-bed Women's Hospital 100-bed Hematology and Oncology Center 100-bed Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Hospital 50-bed Emergency Hospital Specialized Outpatient Clinics Complex Additional components include forensic medicine, research and studies centers, a blood bank, and residential facilities for medical professionals. The first phase will cover 93 dunums [9.3 hectares], with a 39-dunum expansion in the second phase. This investment is part of broader structural reforms in Iraq's healthcare sector, which includes joint operation models with international providers to finalize delayed hospital projects.
