Healthy Kids digital content on health and physical education for primary school students released
A healthy body is important for a healthy mind. Only a healthy mind will give rise to healthy thoughts. This is why special attention needs to be paid to maintaining a healthy body, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said.
He was speaking at the release of Healthy Kids digital content on health and physical education for primary school students, which has been prepared by the State Institute of Educational Technology as part of the government's comprehensive quality education programme, here on Monday .
The Minister pointed out that many schools in the State lacked physical education teachers and hence proper physical training period. Against this backdrop, Healthy Kids was implemented to improve health and physical education in schools. The State Council of Educational Research and Training prepared a handbook for Healthy Kids. The question then was how would a school without a physical education teacher use Healthy Kids. This led to the SIET developing the Healthy Kids digital content, the Minister said.
Besides content based on textbooks, the SIET was also preparing videos and animation on extra-curricular content. The digital content, prepared with the support of SCERT's Physical Education department, was easy for children to view and train on their own. This should be popularised on social media accounts of all institutions in the public education sector, Mr. Sivankutty said.
At present, there is one textbook for Class I and II and another for Classes III and IV. The content of both has been transformed in 40 videos with a duration of 24 minutes. Students' physical abilities will be improved through games and exercise. All teachers will be given training in this during the vacation training programme.
SIET Director B. Aburaj, SCERT Director Jayaprakash R.K., Director of General Education Shanavas S., and Vidyakiranam coordinator C. Ramakrishnan were present.
