Jamie Theakston praises Amanda Holden for 'key role' after cancer diagnosis
Heart Radio Breakfast star Jamie Theakston praised Amanda Holden for her 'fantastic' support amid his battle with laryngeal cancer, detailing their close friendship Jamie Theakston says Amanda Holden has been a 'key part' of his recovery following a battle with stage one laryngeal cancer, which he was given the all clear for in January. The Heart Breakfast presenter, 54, scooped up a TRIC Award for his morning radio show with Amanda on Tuesday, and told Mirror at the ceremony: "Amanda has been fantastic, she's been a part of my recovery. So, yeah, it has brought us closer as friends." Jamie was diagnosed with stage one laryngeal cancer back in September 2024 after listeners noticed a difference in his voice - initially putting it down to a mere sore throat. The broadcaster has since undergone three surgeries and revealed in January that he was cancer free. And giving an update on how he's feeling now, five months after getting the all clear and returning to work, Jamie said: "I'm feeling great, my family are all really great too." Jamie shares children Sidney, 17, and Kit, 16, with his wife of almost two decades Sophie Siegle, with the presenter admitting that his family are all 'relieved' and happy to have him back in healthy form. He has even been left with some life lessons, leaving the health battle with a new outlook, admitted Jamie. "The whole experience has made me worry less in general, that's what it has taught me." While Jamie and Amanda may be tight-knit friends, he revealed that the early morning wake up calls don't always have them on the right side of the bed. "We can be moody sometimes," he laughed. "But we just argue it out on air and then it's fine!" Jamie and Amanda beat out stars such as Rylan for his Saturday BBC Radio 2 show and Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby for their Capital Breakfast Show at the TRIC Awards. Taking to the stage to accept the award during the London ceremony, Jamie got emotional as he admitted the award was extra special. "There has been times in the past 12 months where I haven't known where I was gonna be never mind on this stage so I really appreciate it," he said on stage. Talking backstage afterwards, he added: "I'm made up, I don't normally win awards and it's really, really nice "I personally celebrate my 20th year [on Heart] this year - I was only meant to do two! So I don't quite understand how that happened, but, no, I love it, I love going in every day. It's a great job. Here's to twenty more."

Amanda Holden told 'you'll get in trouble' as she fires swipe at Holly Willoughby
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has playfully taken a swipe at her former This Morning colleague Holly Willoughby. On her Heart Radio Breakfast show with Jamie Theakston this morning, she addressed rumours of a second series of her and Paul C Brunson's Netflix show, Cheat: Unfinished Business, being commissioned. "Well, yesterday I read in the paper that we are doing another series, but I don't know for sure," she clarified. Her co-presenter Jamie then couldn't help but tease: 'What are they suggesting, they getting Holly Willoughby?'. The remark caught Amanda, 54, off-guard as she responded: "I... what? !", before adding with a laugh: "No, they want a proper presenter." Jamie warned: "You're going to get in trouble for that!", which led to Amanda joking: "No one's listening." Both Amanda and Holly have fronted ITV's This Morning previously. The latter was one of the programme's most familiar faces until her departure after 14 years in 2023. Amanda has previously filled in for Holly during her maternity leave, co-hosting alongside the show's former host Phillip Schofield. Previously discussing their working relationship, Phillip said of Amanda to Heat Magazine: "She has a faulty edit button and she forgets she's on the telly, which is enormously endearing and funny, but occasionally quite scary." Amanda also said she 'absolutely loved' her time on the show, though things appeared to take a turn between them a few years later. At the time, there were conflicting stories suggesting that Phillip had requested to work with Rochelle Humes over Amanda, though ITV refuted these claims. Adding fuel to the fire, the Heart Radio host seemingly hinted at a rift with her ex-colleague in 2019 during a segment on the show. Listing three things she wouldn't want to find in her home, she said: "Spiders, flies and Phillip Schofield." She also said she had invited Phillip to her home for a coffee to clear the air, but claimed he didn't respond. In 2023, Amanda was accused of taking a dig at Holly via Instagram. When the latter made her return to the show after Phillip's exit, she began an emotional statement with: "Right, deep breath. Firstly, are you OK? I hope so." Shortly after, Amanda said in a video: "Hello, it is Tuesday. Are you OK?". With a grin, she continued: "I'm wearing this gorgeous white jumpsuit. It's been in my wardrobe for ages and I've been dying to wear it because the weather's got better and I can." The presenter later dismissed claims that she was mocking Holly, saying in a statement: "Sadly strong and intelligent women have for far too long been pitted against one other when we should all be celebrated in our own right. "Women are still expected to say nothing, suffer silently and just get on with it. And we do... mostly."
