Henderson Co. woman found guilty for ‘death by distribution'
HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A Henderson County woman was found guilty of death by distribution Thursday after an investigation determined she sold the fentanyl that led to another woman's death.
According to the District Attorney for Henderson, Polk, and Transylvania Counties, 38-year-old Heather Marie Maybin, of Hendersonville, was found guilty of death by distribution by a jury following a four-day trial. Maybin was sentenced to serve between 66 and 92 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.
A release from the district attorney said Maybin was a known drug dealer who conducted illegal activities through Facebook Messenger. According to the release, Maybin sold $40 worth of fentanyl to the victim and a friend on February 6, 2023 in the Walmart parking lot off Highland Square Drive.
According to the release, the victim used a hypodermic needle to ingest the fentanyl before she lost consciousness and stopped breathing. An autopsy of the victim confirmed death by fentanyl toxicity.
Through witness interviews and Facebook Messenger communications, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office found cause for a search warrant that led to Maybin's arrest, according to reports.
'My office, along with our dedicated and professional partners, is committed to ridding our community of fentanyl by holding drug dealers accountable for these untimely and extremely tragic deaths,' District Attorney Andrew Murray said in a release.
