Helmi Toulan named coach of Egypt's home-based national team - National Teams
Veteran coach Helmi Toulan has been appointed manager of Egypt's home-based national team, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Wednesday.
The 75-year-old is one of the most experienced figures in Egyptian football, having had multiple stints managing Cairo giants Zamalek.
He has also coached several other Egyptian Premier League clubs, including Enppi, Harras El-Hodoud, Ittihad of Alexandria, NBE Club, Ceramica Cleopatra, and Smouha.
'I met with the Egyptian Football Association board members, and they appointed me as the team's new coach,' Toulan told an Egyptian radio station on Wednesday, confirming the news.
Toulan's immediate task is to prepare the squad for the upcoming Arab Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 1 December to 18.
The EFA also announced the technical staff: former national team skipper Ahmed Hassan will serve as team manager, while legendary goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary has been named goalkeeping coach.
Mamdouh Mohammadi and Mohamed Nour will serve as assistant coaches.
Egypt last participated in the Arab Cup in 2021, finishing fourth under Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.
