New coaching programme opens doors to government jobs for visually impaired students
In a step toward inclusive education and employment, Help the Blind Foundation (HTBF), in collaboration with Veranda Race, has launched a coaching initiative aimed at preparing visually impaired students for government job exams.
The first batch of 40 students began their 8-week intensive training on April 30, 2025. The programme is being delivered in a hybrid model — both online and in person — from centres in Chennai and Madurai. A press release said that the programme combines HTBF's extensive experience in empowering visually impaired youth through education and mobility support with Veranda Race's expertise in competitive exam coaching.
The initiative primarily targets students from economically disadvantaged families, many of whom relocate to cities to access better education and support networks. The coaching is part of HTBF's broader Education, Mobility, and Employability Training (EMET) programme, which also offers life skills, mobility training, and career readiness support.
'Competitive exams are a major gateway to employment, and this partnership helps remove the barriers that visually impaired students often face,' a spokesperson of HTBF was quoted as saying in the release.
By providing tailored coaching and support, the HTBF-Veranda Race collaboration aims to create a more level playing field for visually impaired candidates and promote a more inclusive workforce.
