Henderson County Schools names new Chief Financial Officer
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Henderson County Schools has a new Chief Financial Officer. School officials have announced they have hired David Stokes to the position. Stokes will take over for Director of Finance Cindy Cloutier, who is retiring after a 37-year career with the district. Summer Sunset Series kicks off in Henderson Officials state Stokes brings a wealth of experience and leadership, serving 20 years as CFO for the McLean County Public School System and six years in private accounting. Officials also state Stokes is a director and past president of the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials and currently serves as the President-Elect of the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials. He has also served as a Kentucky Department of Education Finance Office Mentor. 'We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Stokes to Henderson County Schools,' notes Superintendent Dr. Bob Lawson. 'His extensive experience, leadership, and commitment to school finance excellence will be a tremendous asset to our district. At the same time, we are incredibly grateful for Ms. Cloutier's outstanding leadership throughout the years and the profound impact she has had on our district. Her dedication has ensured Henderson County Schools is financially sound and well-positioned for the future.' Public invited to East Heights Elementary groundbreaking in Henderson
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – East Heights Elementary School will soon undergo a renovation project to improve infrastructure and create a more modern environment for students. This was announced by Henderson County Schools. Officials state the project will bring modernized learning spaces, updated facilities and enhanced resources to benefit students, staff and community. Students, families, staff and community are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday. Officials also go into more specific details about what the updates will bring: Construction of a new classroom wing to provide improved learning spaces for students. Demolition of the existing pods to modernize the school's layout and functionality. ADA accessibility and code improvements include upgraded doors, hardware, drinking fountains, toilets, and ramps. A new HVAC system to improve energy efficiency and climate control. An expanded parking area. Front office entry modifications to enhance safety and functionality. Officials estimate the project will be completed over two to three years in four phases, ensuring minimal disruption to students and staff. 'We are committed to providing our students with the best possible educational experience,' said Superintendent Dr. Bob Lawson. 'These improvements will not only modernize the school but also enhance accessibility and overall functionality for years to come. Henderson's City Junior Ambassador Program accepting applications
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The city of Henderson has announced that applications are now open for the 2025-2026 City Junior Ambassador Program. Officials say marking the third year of the program, this collaborative effort between the city of Henderson and Henderson County Schools seeks to offer high school students an in-depth, hands-on experience in municipal government. City officials explain the City Junior Ambassadors meet on the first Friday of each month from August to May to visit various city departments and local community partners. Through these meetings, students will gain a deeper understanding of how local government operates, while also learning to network with 'local leaders.' Henderson takes junior ambassadors to the Kentucky Capitol Officials say one of the program's highlights is a special trip to Frankfort, Kentucky, where participants will have the opportunity to tour the Kentucky State Capitol, meet with state leaders and visit other historic sites. This trip offers an opportunity for students to see how state government functions and learn about the broader political landscape of Kentucky. 'The City Junior Ambassador Program is an incredible opportunity for our students to connect with their local government, make a difference in their community, and gain real-world experience that will help them as future leaders,' said City Public Relations Director, Holli Blanford. 'We are proud to continue this partnership with Henderson County Schools and look forward to another successful year of engaging and educating our youth.' Henderson takes junior ambassadors to the Kentucky Capitol
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Henderson officials say the city took its City Junior Ambassadors, which consist of 12 high school juniors and seniors, last Thursday and Friday to Frankfort, Kentucky to visit their state leaders and attend the legislative session. City officials say they visited the Kentucky History Center, toured the Old State Capitol and 'enjoyed all Frankfort has to offer.' The students met Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, visited the governor's office and were able to network with other elected officials, including State Senator Robby Mills and State Representative J.T. Payne. Clay Street bridge project scheduled to begin A spokesperson for the city says, 'We are currently in our second year of the City Junior Ambassador program and just opened up applications for next year! It's been a wonderful partnership between the City of Henderson and Henderson County Schools.' Colon cancer awareness events get more locations Officials explain each month, August through May, the students spend the first Friday learning about their city government. This can include visits to the Henderson Water Utility, Public Works, Henderson Municipal Power and Light and Henderson Municipal Gas. In April, this year's students will be meeting with Henderson Economic Development, the Chamber of Commerce and the Henderson Tourist Commission so they can learn more about the city's 'community partners.' Henderson officials explain the students apply for the program and are selected based on their applications. A committee of people from Henderson County Schools and the city come together to look through each application and select students for the program.
