Convicted child murderer dies in prison
(WBRE/WYOU) — A man who was sent to prison for killing a mother and her 6-year-old daughter in Luzerne County has died.
According to John Rivello, superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon, inmate Henry Christopher Stubbs, 60, was found unresponsive in his cell on June 17.
Prison staff and medical personnel responded to provide life-saving measures. EMS arrived and life support measures were continued as Stubbs was transferred to Penn Highlands Hospital, where he later died at 5:34 p.m.
Man sentenced 25-52 years for assault and child porn
Stubbs was convicted after investigators said he killed Elena Herring, 33, and her daughter, Viktoria Ivanova, inside their home on Stark Street in Wilkes-Barre on December 7, 2001.
Stubbs was visiting his then girlfriend when he forced his way inside Herring's home, raped and strangled her, and then hung the girl in the basement with electrical wire, according to previous reports.
He was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, and he had been at SCI Huntingdon since May 2011.
