UPMC Hamot hosts annual Wear Red Expo for women's heart health

Friday was National Wear Red Day, an event designed to spread awareness about heart health, especially in women. To help get the word out, UPMC Hamot held their 18th annual Wear Red Heart and Health Awareness Expo. Pymatuning State Park hosting annual Winter Fun Day Hamot conducted more than a dozen screenings for things like cholesterol, blood pressure, and provided resources to people in need. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women and experts say it's important to keep track of your numbers. Herb and Honey Bakery opens their doors to new location 'You'll want to get your screenings done. If you can be ahead of the disease, then you are ahead of obviously the number one killer. We just try to get out into the community with these events in order to have awareness and to get those screenings so that you don't have to become one of our patients,' said Tiffany Irwin, senior practice manager for UPMC Cardiology. A local bakery that's been making a buzz on social media has landed at a new brick-and-mortar location. Herb and Honey Bakery has moved from their previous location in Urbaniak's to their very own storefront at 516 Cherry Street. Local Special Olympics athletes surprised with news of joining Team Pennsylvania The bakery focuses on quality baked goods made with local ingredients, and quickly outgrew their space with a large outpouring of community support. Herb and Honey sources as many ingredients as possible from our local community, and owner Jessica Schultz continues to partner with local vendors and businesses to foster growth in the erie area Weather, more delays pushes back opening of new Edison Elementary 'We pay a living wage here, and I'm even working on trying to raise it. We also partner with a lot of local farmers. A strong community has a resilient food system behind it.
