Deion Sanders turns heads by welcoming back castaway transfer at Colorado

Colorado has brought back a familiar face. Wide receiver Jack Hestera has returned to be with Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes after stops at Charlotte and Utah State. The one-time castaway after Coach Prime got to Boulder was a walk-on at CU under Karl Dorrell from 2021–22. Hestera's journey through the transfer portal is a story of perseverance. Advertisement The Boulder native has deep ties to the Buffaloes. His father Dan was a national champion in 1990, and his uncle Dave was an All-Big Eight tight end. Hestera brings more than just experience; he's a legacy recruit. After redshirting and earning limited time under Dorrell, Hestera found success at Charlotte with 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns, then upped his game with Utah State, posting 340 yards and four scores on just 24 catches. Now back with the Buffs as portal addition, Hestera joins a retooled receiving corps that lost stars like Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., LaJohntay Wester, and Will Sheppard to the NFL. Though not a headliner, his veteran presence and familiarity with Colorado's environment give him a chance to carve out a key role in a room looking for leadership and production. Former Colorado walk-on rejoins Buffs for his final year of college football

Former Colorado walk-on rejoins Buffs for his final year of college football Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders added to his wide receiver room with a former walk-on of the program. Jack Hestera, committed to CU on Sunday after spending last year at Utah State he announced on his social media. The wide receiver played at Colorado from 2021-2022 and played his 2023 season at Charlotte. Hestera entered the portal on April 16. The 6-foot Texan made the most of his time at Utah State in 2024, catching 24 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns. Two years prior, he ranked fifth in receiving yards for Colorado with 157 as he was one of the few bright spots in the Buffs' 1-11 season ahead of Coach Prime's arrival. Hestera took the long way back to Colorado with multiple stops at different programs including his lonesome season at Charlotte where he tallied 349 yards on 28 receptions with three touchdowns. He joins the Buffs for his final year of eligibility remaining. Deion Sanders has been particularly active in the portal with pass catchers. Hestera marks the Buffs' third receiver of the spring window and fourth overall of the offseason. Coach Prime added Sincere Brown from the Campbell Fighting Camels and a former five-star out of Florida State Hykeem Williams earlier this spring. Hestera joins a stacked wide receiver room beaming with potential stars and could make an impact for the Buffs on special teams. Nonetheless, his commitment is a full-circle moment as he rejoins the Buffs for his final collegiate season.
