Norman's Neighborhood: North Little Rock sisters setting example that you're never too young to impact others

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – This week's Norman's Neighborhood stressed the importance that you are never too young to make an impact. Zaniyah and Jamya, sisters from North Little Rock with dreams of becoming a veterinarian and engineer, often recite the poem 'Hey Black Child.' Norman's Neighborhood: North Little Rock senior being a role model to youth just like Officer Norman The poem is by Useni Eugene Perkins, and they hold it near and dear to their hearts. It's a poem that all children can connect with. 'My teacher told me that if you aren't black, you can say any color,' Zaniyah said. 'I don't think they really realize how powerful the poem is, but it's us as the village to let them know that poem was amazing and that poem even inspired me,' Officer Tommy Norman said. Norman's Neighborhood: Mother of 9 kids thankful to have Officer Norman in the community The voices of these two are strong, promising and give hope, just like the poem. 'I don't think they really realize how special they are,' Norman said. Being shared on Officer Norman's large social media platform, these sisters were able to touch the nation as they recited 'Hey Black Child.' Speaking to Zaniyah and Jamya, Norman says, 'We're sitting on the bench in North Little Rock, Arkansas, but people in Texas and Florida and New York hear your voice.' Norman's Neighborhood: Celebrating Mother's Day with Officer Norman's mom Officer Norman says it's important to express to kids that they have a voice and impact that reaches far beyond what they can see.
