To get breaking news alerts, click here A flipped vehicle off of Highway 101 brought traffic to a standstill outside of San Luis Obispo on Sunday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol responded to a small white SUV going off northbound Highway 101 just before the Higuera Street off-ramp and crashing into an orchard at 1:47 p.m., according to its traffic incident page. The SUV flipped on its way down and was 15 feet from the highway down the embankment, the CHP page said. It was unclear if there were any injuries resulting from the crash. Ambulances and a tow truck were en route as of 2:30 p.m., according to the CHP page. Heavy traffic resulted from the crash, backing up to the Mattie Road off-ramp in Shell Beach as of Sunday at 2:30 p.m., according to the Caltrans QuickMap.

PALO ALTO, Calif. - All northbound lanes of the U.S. Highway 101 were temporarily blocked in Palo Alto following a car crash on Monday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol announced in a post on X just after 2:45 p.m. that all the lanes of the northbound side of the freeway just south of University Avenue were blocked "due to crash." The CHP announced just after 3:25 p.m. that the two right lanes of the freeway were opened to let traffic through, and the agency reported just before 4:05 p.m. that the freeway had been cleared and all lanes were reopened.

Police say five people killed after collision near Falmouth, N.S.

Nova Scotia RCMP say five people have died after a two-vehicle crash near Falmouth, N.S. Police say it's believed a Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra were travelling in the eastbound lane on Highway 101 between Falmouth and Hantsport, N.S., about 70 kilometres southwest of Halifax, when they collided Saturday around 11 p.m. The driver and passenger of the Civic, a 43-year-old man and 45-year-old woman from Falmouth, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the driver of the Sentra, a 45-year-old woman from Oxford, N.S., and a 58-year-old male passenger from Nappan, N.S., were also declared dead at the crash site. Mounties say two other passengers, a 50-year-old man and 29-year-old man, were taken to hospital, and the 50-year-old from Oxford was later pronounced dead. The 29-year-old man, who is from British Columbia, was flown to hospital by helicopter and remains in critical condition. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
