Good Samaritan truck driver honored as ‘angel'
ARCHDALE — A truck driver from Pennsylvania has received recognition from the Truckload Carriers Association for extinguishing a pickup burning along Interstate 85 in Archdale last month. TCA posted on its website that Kerry Netusil of Hawley, Pennsylvania, was among the latest to be named a TCA Highway Angel. Netusil, a driver for Minnesota-based Bay & Bay Transportation, was driving on I-85 about 12:25 p.m. on April 22 when he saw the pickup on fire and the driver apparently without any way to extinguish the flames. 'I pulled over and ran back with my fire extinguisher,' Netusil told TCA. 'The guy's truck was totaled, and he definitely burned part of his hand in the fire.' Netusil's grandfather and father were both firefighters, Netusil said, and he never hesitated to stop to help the distressed driver. 'I don't like the idea of people losing stuff because I didn't feel like pulling over,' he said. 'It just doesn't sit right with me.' TCA says that since the TCA Highway Angel program began in August 1997, nearly 1,500 professional truck drivers have been recognized as TCA Highway Angels for exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage displayed while on the job.
