Three suspects arrested for cable and copper theft from a construction site in Secunda
Three suspects arrested for cable and copper theft from a construction site in Secunda MavCorp High Risk Response followed up on information regarding cable and copper theft at a construction site between the Secunda police station and the Fireplace Roadhouse. According to MavCorp's operational manager, Jose Hilario, two suspects were detained and handed over to Secunda police on the afternoon of May 26, after admitting to their involvement in the theft of 25 meters of cable and 19 meters of copper, which took place during last week. 'An excavator operator was able to dig up the cable. The cable and copper were then loaded onto a truck using a TLB,' said Hilario. A truck was allegedly used to removed the items and the stolen cable and copper were then sold to a scrap yard dealer. It is not yet known to which scrap yard dealer the items were sold, as the matter is under investigation. A third suspect, the truck driver, was arrested this morning, May 27. According to Hilario, the truck driver did not report for work nor was seen since dropping the truck off at a company he works for yesterday morning. The truck driver's boss contacted him this morning when he did not report for work and instructed him to return to the work site, which he did. MavCorp were on scene to make the arrest when the truck driver arrived and then handed him over to the Secunda police. The value of the stolen cable is around R20 000.
