Big Island police investigating fatal vehicle collision
HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — Big Island authorities have launched a negligent homicide investigation after a deadly traffic collision involving a male pedestrian in Kurtistown on the evening of May 16. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Maxwell Robertson Sherwood of Keaʻau, according to authorities. Fresh flower lei prices soar as graduation season is in full swing Police say that a 30-year-old driver was operating an SUV when he struck Sherwood who was in the roadway, not in a marked crosswalk. Police say witnesses reported seeing vehicles in the area swerving around Sherwood to avoid hitting him in the street. As a result of the collision, Sherwood was taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he died later that driver was not injured, but was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and first-degree negligent homicide, Hawaiʻi Police Department said. He remains in custody in Hilo and has not been charged. This marks the 13th traffic fatality of the year for the Big Island, compared to 16 at this point last year. Hawaii island police arrest woman after domestic dispute turns deadly

Police said that at 11 :25 p.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a residence on Lehua Road in the Nanawale Estates subdivision after a woman called police to report that a man at the home was not breathing. The woman allegedly told police that she and the man had been involved in a domestic dispute in which he had tried to kill her, and that she strangled him to death. Officers found the man slumped over in the driver's seat of a vehicle. 'He was not breathing, no pulse was detected, and his face appeared purple, ' a Hawaii County news release said. 'Officers immediately administered Narcan to the male, however, it was ineffective. They then attempted the use of an automated external defibrillator, however due to the victim's condition, the device was not advised.' Police said that Hawaii Fire Department personnel took over life-saving measures and the victim was taken by an ambulance to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead at 11 :57 p.m. while en-route to the hospital. The woman, identified as Patricia Ann McConnell, was arrested at the scene for suspicion of second-degree murder and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. McConnell had a packet 'containing a white crystalline substance in her pocket, which tested presumptive positive as methamphetamine, ' police said. She was taken to the Pahoa Police Station for processing, then transferred to the East Hawaii Detection Facility in Hilo. An autopsy was scheduled for today to determine the exact cause of death. Big Island man at large after allegedly killing ex-girlfriend's sister
PUNA, Hawaii (KHON2) — Big Island police have began a homicide investigation after two early morning shootings in Puna on March 4 left a 25-year-old woman dead. Police are looking for the suspect, who they say is 28-year-old Isaiah Kaleo Jiaan Fourshey of Mountain View. Puna patrol officers responded to a residence on Hibiscus Street in Mountain View shortyl after midnight after receiving calls from a woman saying that Fourshey, who is her daughter's ex-boyfriend, had come to her residence looking for her daughter. Ala Moana shooting raises questions over Hawaiʻi's sensitive places law After being told that his ex-girlfriend was not at the residence, Fourshey allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot at the caller's husband multiple times. The man was not struck by any bullets and Fourshey left the area. Upon investigation of the shooting, police received a call from Fourshey's ex-girlfriend, who was calling from her sister's home on Plumeria Street in Mountain View. According to her, Fourshey had showed up at the residence, kicked in the front door and shot at the sisters multiple times, striking her responders immediately showed up to the residence, where they attempted life-saving measures on the victim, who was later identified as 25-year-old Latisha Soares. Soares was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries just after 2 a.m. Authorities continued their investigation, which is currently being investigated as a second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Big Island police begin arson investigation following suspicious brush fires While investigating, authorities found that Fourshey resides on Hibiscus Street, and police located his vehicle, but not his person. Authorities were also able to determine that Fourshey had been back at his residence following the shootings. Fourshey is described as being part Hawaiian, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Man dead in Hilo shooting, homicide investigation opened
HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — Hawaii Island police are searching for information relating to a homicide in Hilo that left one man dead. Fate of accused murderer Eric Thompson in hands of jury Officials said South Hilo patrol officers were responding to a home on Maunakai Street when it was reported that a man was shot. When officers arrived, they found the man on the roadway fronting the residence with a gunshot wound to the torso and appeared lifeless. According to police, paramedics used multiple lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful. He was brought to Hilo Benioff Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m. HPD classified the incident as a second-degree murder. The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing the investigation. Police identify 6th traffic fatality on Big Island this year
Hawaii island police have identified the woman who died as a passenger in car crash last week as Yvonne Mira, 86, of Hilo. The Hawaii Police Department says Mira died Monday evening at Queen's Medical Center on Oahu. An autopsy has been ordered to determine her exact cause of death. Just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 30, Hilo officers responded to a call regarding a 2007 Honda Pilot that had veered into a ditch off of Kaumana Drive and then crashed into a rock embankment. An 84-year-old man, later identified as Ken Rosene, was the driver of the Honda Pilot. Mira was the front seat passenger and unresponsive at the scene. She was taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center and later transported to Queen's Medical Center.
