The
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education
(
HPBOSE
) on Wednesday announced its
Class XII results
afresh after re-evaluating answersheets of the English exam. In the process, the pass percentage of Class XII improved by 5.48%, rising from 83.16% to 88.64%.
According to a notification issued by the board, an additional 5,724 students passed in the revised results. In the Class XII result declared on Saturday, 71,591 students passed the exams. This number has now increased to 76,315.
The board re-evaluated its English answersheets and amended the result after parents and teachers across the state complained of low marking in the subject. The board clarified on Tuesday that the low marking in the English subject was due to the wrong answer key and that it would declare the results afresh.
The matter of poor scores in the English exam was first brought to the notice of the authorities by the Himachal Pradesh Government Teachers' Union (HPGTU) and private school associations, prompting education minister Rohit Thakur to ask the board to probe the matter and take appropriate action.
The board initiated an inquiry, which found that wrong answer keys of the cancelled paper had been uploaded due to a "human error" and this led to discrepancies, HPBOSE secretary Vishal Sharma had said earlier.
