Volunteers remove thousands of Himalayan Balsam plants at Bowling Park
Volunteers have worked to clear an area of Bowling Park from an invasive and fast-growing plant species: Himalayan Balsam.
Staff from N-Gen Energy Solutions joined forces with members of the Friends of Bowling Park for a day of improvements at the park, to mark Volunteers' Week (June 2 to 8).
The eight-strong team's other tasks included cleaning park signs, planting shrubs and flowers, weeding cobbles, and restoring a bench near The Cabin.
Urban ranger Kristian Eastwood, from Better Place Bradford, helped the volunteers clear The Roughs, a woodland area in the park which had become overrun with Himalayan Balsam.

Thousands of the plants were removed by volunteers.
Bowling Park was chosen for the volunteering work because it is near the Birkshall Gas Site, where N-Gen is investing as a partner in what a spokesperson for the company described as "one of the UK's largest low-carbon hydrogen production, storage, and refuelling stations."
The park is also seeing more visitors as it hosts The Beacon, a touring venue providing dance workshops and performances as part of the City of Culture 2025 celebrations.
