Tirupati: The Sri Sathya Sai district police have arrested the prime accused in the sensational murder case of Hindupur-based advocate Sampath Kumar, which occurred on May 29, 2024.
The accused, Nagarjuna Reddy (A-2), was apprehended by a special team probing the case, while the main accused,
Krishna Reddy
(A-1), surrendered to the police on Sunday.
The special team, constituted by Sri Sathya Sai district SP V Rathna, had been investigating the case for nearly a year and has so far arrested seven accused. According to Hindupur DSP KV Mahesh, the accused had brutally murdered Sampath Kumar and thrown his body into the Dharmavaram lake.
The investigation revealed that the murder was a result of a land dispute between Krishna Reddy, an advocate, and another advocate, Srikanth, at Melapuram near Hindupur. Sampath Kumar, who was working with Srikanth, got involved in the civil dispute and became a target of Krishna Reddy's grudge.
The accused had been absconding for almost a year and tried to obtain anticipatory bail from the high court and the supreme court. However, the special investigation team's efforts led to the arrest of six accused, prompting the main accused, Krishna Reddy, to surrender.
SP V Rathna appreciated the efforts of the special police teams in solving the year long pending case by arresting all the seven accused involved in the sensational murder case.
