Hollidaysburg school board gives preliminary approval for tax hike
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Some Hollidaysburg homeowners may soon be looking at a tax increase.
The Hollidaysburg School District held a board meeting Wednesday night, where they gave preliminary approval of its 2025-26 budget that is expected to raise local taxes.
Business Manager and Board Secretary Autumn D. Fiscus said the board's vote was only a preliminary adoption of the budget. Fiscus explained that the preliminary approval includes their full Act One Index of 4.9%. This means a tax hike for households based on property values.
'Our median assessed value is $169,300, meaning the average tax increase would be approximately $84/year,' Fiscus said.
The board says the increase is necessary as the money will be used to address a series of immediate problems and repairs at the high school and junior high building.
The final adoption will take place during another board meeting on June 18.
