Driver crashes into JFK Memorial in Holyoke, police seek charges

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Holyoke Police Department is seeking charges against a driver who crashed into the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza Sunday morning. Multi-car crash in Holyoke damages traffic light, parked cars Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan stated that at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to the area of Suffolk Street and Sycamore Street for a single-vehicle crash. The crash resulted in significant damage to several monuments located at the Memorial Plaza. Police and fire crews were able to gain access to the vehicle and remove the driver and passenger from the car. Both occupants were administered Narcan and brought to the hospital to be evaluated for injuries. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Springfield, was issued a citation. Chief Keenan said that officers will be seeking a criminal complaint against him for OUI – Drugs and Wanton Destruction of Property. The Holyoke Department of Public Works has been contacted about the damage to the memorial. 22News will provide updates as more information becomes available. Shots-fired call leads to 2 arrests in Holyoke

HOLYOKE — A shots-fired incident over the weekend led police to make two arrests in the case on Tuesday, according to the Holyoke Police Department. On Sunday at about 9:55 p.m., Holyoke police were dispatched to East Dwight and Center streets because of gunfire. Officers collected 13 shell casings at the scene, but found no victims or property damage. Through their investigation, officers identified two suspects, Glenn Jacobs, 42, and Xavier Medina, 20, and were granted a warrant for their arrests. On Tuesday, the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force was working on an unrelated investigation, but around 4:05 p.m. conducted a traffic stop at Lyman Street and Open Square Way in which Jacobs was the driver and Medina the passenger. They were both arrested. Jacobs, of Holyoke, and Medina, of Springfield, are both charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and possession of both a firearm and ammunition without an FID card. HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Holyoke Police Department has announced that from Monday to Wednesday, road work will be conducted on Route 141 and Route 5, resulting in road closures. Most power restored in Ware following storm, businesses up and running Police said that Route 141 will be closed from Old Jarvis Avenue to Route 5 from Monday night until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The same closures will occur from Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. until Wednesday at 6:00 a.m. Drivers in the area should reduce speed and use caution when navigating the area, and seek alternate routes as necessary. HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Holyoke man was arrested after police found more than 100 rounds of ammunition during a property check on Maple Street. In a news release from the Holyoke Police Department, at around 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday, an officer conducted a property check at 456 Maple Street when two people saw police, they ran up the stairs. Springfield man faces motor vehicle charges after Ludlow police pursuit One person was found inside a vacant apartment with a ski mask on. When assisting officers arrived and entered the apartment, they found another man attempting to jump out of the window. Officers were able to pull the man to safety when they dropped three bags of suspected heroin. Officers arrested him and was identified as 28-year-old Geruis Rodriguez-Tejada of Holyoke. A book bag belonging to Rodriguez-Tejada was searched and revealed more than 100 rounds of ammunition, two 9mm firearm magazines, a 9mm gun barrel and a knife.
